Oscar Fish

| jim gerard | Oscars are solitary (except during breeding when they form pair-bonds) and it's just nonsense to say you need a minimum of 6 oscars. I'm not sure what a "pink oscar" is but there's no difference in aggression between color variations. | 2/20/2011 |

| Brett | Not too bad an article, however colouration of an oscar has zero relation to aggression, also the pH should be more along the line of 6.8. I have kept and bred them for 20+ years now and 6 in a tank as juvies is fine until maturity when they may pair off and maul/kill individuals not paired off. | 7/23/2010 |

| Jelly | I know for a fact that an oscar is a very messy eater (i.e. as much food get spat out as get swallowed). With this in mind, what filter is best for them? Most filters quickly get clogged up, and I do want to minimize the loss of beneficial bacteria in the filter media, so is there a particular type of filter that might be better for this fish, or do I need a combination of different types of filters. If so, what might these filters be? | 2/5/2009 |
