I think you're full of it. I got a lap band hoping it would help with appetite and the ability to cut down on intake without feeling hungry all the time. When you start avoiding things like virtually every vegetable boiled or steamed because you know you're going to throw it up, when fruit (yes, even applesauce) is a distant memory, or when eating yogurt, scrambled egg whites or shredded boiled chicken is a sure fire way to run to the john to throw up, there is more to lapband failure than "head hunger". When you throw up water on an empty stomache because it gets "stuck", but things like chips, crackers, or oily foods WILL stay down you soon learn to eat what you can when you're hungry. While this procedure apparently works for some people, the nine people I know who have spent the bucks on it have had it done have had dismal results. I can appreciate that I haven't gained any weight since I had my lap band placed, but it's not because I eat smaller amounts of the stuff that's good for me, if that were the case I WOULD be losing weight, but it's because I can't eat as much of the stuff that any idiot knows they shoudn't eat on a diet, but is the only things that I can consume. I can't help but feel that I am missing out on important fiber and nutrients because I can't eat the foods I KNOW I should be eating for health. I can tell you right now that I know of no one who's had this kind of failure with bypass or roux en y. I believe this procedure could adversely affect the nutritional health of anyone who has it done. |

I never knew anything about "Head Hunger". I guess that is what I have. I want to be slim like I use to be but it isn't as easy as it sounds. I guess I need to solve Head hunger and I can be slim again. |

What is wrong with tea and coffee? I was told I could drink a couple glasses of wine a day. I understand pretzels, chips, etc. but what's up with the drinks especially decaf? |

"...its size increases and it applies pressure on the Lap-Band. Lap-Band inflates..." This is innacurate. The band doesn't 'inflate' when you eat. The band separates a small pouch from the rest of the stomach. It can be inflated by the doctor to reduce the size of the stoma (the opening between the small pouch portion and the rest of the stomach. It doesn't inflate when you eat. When you eat a small portion of food (usually 4-5 oz.), the small pouch created above the band expands slightly, and that pressure causes the nerves at the top of the stomach send a signal to the brain that you are satisfied. if you are eating good solid food (not liquids or mushy food), the feeling a satiety will stay with you for 4-5 hours, so that you can be satisfied between meals. |

I wish I had known how hard it would be to control my food "cravings" before the surgery. I assumed that only drinks were liquid and would go through easily but there are many foods that are high in calories that will pass through the stoma and sabotage all the whole procedure! |
