Copperhead Snakes
Andrew Bellefonte rose from the bushes and offered us a ribbon-like, writhing snake. Scrawny hands passed over the thin, coiling young Copperhead. With awe-struck reverence, my two youngest sons handled the snake carefully. I shuddered at the malevolent gleam emanating from its eyes. Then Bellefonte quickly returned it to the bush in this godforsaken stretch of the National Forest we were visiting.
