| Dan Medill | Ok for North America but otherwise round verses cat shaped pupils don't cut it. I have a friend that visited Africa and picked up a baby black mamba... with round pupils... based on that notion... he was blessed and not bit. The King Cobra has round pupils and pythons have cat eyes | 6/8/2011 |
| zmachspeedj | I live in aguanga Ca and encountered an aprox. 5 ft snake with very vivid beautiful red diamonds on his back, but no rattles. The head was not that of a rattle snake. I had a very long good look at it before I went to tell my husband. it was only 3 ft away from me stretched out with his head up but not moving. He didn't have a slender head either. somewhat in between. I would like to know what kind of snake it was. I have never seen one like it and have lived in the Palm Springs are since 1970. any info could help | 5/23/2011 |

| Greg | It would have been nice to have a label on the picture used. That is exactly the type of snake I see, and yet I have no idea what it is from your article when I could. It's black with yellow, slender, etc. but that doesn't tell me what it IS. | 6/14/2010 |

| billy | what kind of snake is black with aorange ring around it's neck and a orange stomach? | 5/3/2009 |
| Rose B | The snake we found is a distinctive coppery color on top and bright orange underneath. It is tiny, about 8 t0 10 inches long, and thinner than a pencil. It has round pupils. We reside in North Carolina, in the 28540 area code. Can you tell us what kind of snake it is? Because your article says round pupils equals non-venomous, we are going to release it. |

| Timski | Mary, all snakes are carnivorous, and a few are exclusively piscivorous (they eat only fish). However there are no herbivorous snakes whatsoever. Interestingly enough, it has recently been discovered that white-tail deer will eat the occasional field mouse, causing the experts to reevaluate the animal's place in the food web. | 3/8/2009 |
| Timski | This site is largely inaccurate. Anyone serious about about snake identification, particularly venomous ones, seek your answers elsewhere. Yes, while all vipers have eliptical pupils, there are countless elapids and colubrids out there with round pupils that are also deadly. Pupil shape means nothing! There are several other discrepancies but I hope this comment will be sufficient enough to deter someone from attempting to learn anything here. | 3/8/2009 |
| wee | the article was rely cool | 3/4/2009 |
| mary | do you know anything about a snake that only eats plants and fruits? (i am a girl that is asking you if what type is that snake.) |
