kathy when the utertus is taken and the ovaries are left in tack the women does not go through menopause unless that has normally taken place prior to surgery fact also other symptoms like hair loss and weight gain may occur only when menopause has taken place if a uterus is removed only lets say because of fibroids and there is no sign of menopause these side effects do not happen 3/10/2011
anum the page helped me aloot in understanding the pros nd cons of this operation as it was also helpful in assissting my mother going through this phase... 3/10/2011
michelle I had a vaginal hystorectomy on Tuesday and other than discomfort in my hips and abdomen, I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised. My periods have always been so painful that I am bed ridden for several days and my recovery so far has been way less painful than that. I am in awe and can't believe that medical technology allows for this to be done w/o having major surgery! 2/24/2011
Ms. Detroit I just had a hysterectomy 5weeks ago and the moment the surgery was over the following morning my sex drive was in overdrive and have been daily since then. This is unusual for me. So it hasn't been bad yet except for the stent that they had to put in my kidneys to my bladder to my urether which is uncomfortable and painful and my concentration has not returned to normal. Other than that I am doing fine. 1/18/2011

cinbrad Hi, i am 2 weeks post-op hysterectomy, including removal of 1 ovary tube and lots of endometreosis. I am due to return to work tomorrow and I still feel weak ,exhausted, and a bit fragile. I am surprised that I am not much much better by now. When do people feel strong again? 2/26/2009
Anne Marie I am 44 yrs. old and had a lapriscopic, vaginal, hysterectomy on December 19, 2008. Exactly two weeks post op, I began feeling numbness, tingling, and a freezing cold feeling, in my left arm and hand. At this point, the numbness and tingling have gone. Now, I experience the freezing cold feeling on the inside of the upper left arm, that comes and goes. I had never had this before the surgery. After spending half a day in the E.R, because my doctor thought I was having a heart attack, which I did not, the E.R. doctor thinks it is neuropothy in the neck, even though I have never had a neck problem, either. Has anyone out there experienced this same symptom, post hysterectomy surgery? I am convinced this is somehow related to the surgery. Thanks. 2/3/2009
johanna I am 72 and had a full hysterectomy. I feel like I am bloated...look like I am pregnant, even though I have not gained weight and continue the same exercise program of walking and yoga that I did prior to the surgery. I can even lie on my back on my exercise ball and touch the floor thinking it is flattening my stomach, but no when I stand up again, this same bag of belly is there to greet me. HELP! 12/13/2008
RUTH BELTRAN I just had my uterus removed in Aust.2008 my only problem is my NIGHTSWEATS, what can i do or take besides sleeping in a tub full of cold water. 9/28/2008
JENNIFER reading everyones comments, this surgery was a second hysterectomy for me they were supposed to due a full one the 1st time but she left one ovary, so i was having pain terrible they admitted me and after 3 days in the hospital they finally did a transvaginal ultrasound and found a cyst the sizeof a softball and endometreosis so i went into surgery right away . The burning i had w/ my 1st one and it does go away, after about 3 months.. 7/15/2008
JENNIFER GREAT INFO, CAUSE I'M GOING THRU EMOTIONAL PERIODS AND I FEEL LIKE I AMOUNTED TO NOTHING. I JUST HOPE TO GET BETTER SOON 7/15/2008
Author Yes the burning would stop and relax till your body heals completely. It is not only about physical healing but psychological as well. Work out and feel good about yourself. The hormones in the body fail to understand the removal of uterus or ovaries...give your body some time to understand the whole mechanism and as I have also mentioned in the article.. you have positive about yourself to be patient and talk to your husband if discussion is required. Come in Pace with your body!!

Lynzylu Hi. Had mine done a little over 2 weeks ago. So far I regret it more than when I had my back lumbar fusion done. I feel like I traded 1 problem for a half dozen more. Apparently from every thing I've been reading theres much more to come. I'm only 40 years old, wasn't ready to toss the prime of my life away. I thought because I would be keeping my ovaries I wouldn't be getting the mood swings but guess that was a myth as well. I seem to be fine with it all 1 minute then a mess the next. Of course that's usually sparked by a wave of pain, whether it be in the form of a stabbing in my sides or the burning that goes across my abdomen or the intense cramps from just not being able to have a bowel movement for days at a time and feeling like your going to burst. Funny how I didn't see any thing mentioned on any of the films I had to watch or the paperwork I was sent to read, nor did the surgical consultant, or my surgeon himself tell me about the burning, and how my husband would think once the staples had been removed, he would be expecting me to go back to work and be ready to be with him, even though I still have 81 sticthes inside of my belly. I don't understand why none of that is discussed before. Hell, I would have been ok hearing it at the time we left the hospital when my husband was there to actually hear it all! Does anyone know if that burning ever stops? Its really, really getting to me bad. I had 1 person tell me it last forever but she's not a reliable source so I'm choosing to get a 2nd opinon. 3/27/2008
Author Thank you for reading!! 2/6/2008
Judy I had a prolapsed uterus in 1996 and had a hysterectomy. I was trying to figure out why I haven't been myself, if there was any connection to this surgery? After reading your article, I see there might be a connection. Thank you for writing this. 2/4/2008
Author Yes it can be the cause but have you stopped exercising and working out. Work out and try to channelize your energies towards things you have interest in, like dance classes, aerobics or yoga and for the breast pain, please consult a doctor as soon as possible. You must consult a doctor within a week. Let us know!!!Take Care!
