M.K. Chanukah starts at different times every year. This year it starts on Dec. 20th and ends at sunset on Dec. 28th. It is an 8 day festival of lights. 12/1/2011

Thomi L. I don't see any pagan holidays on the list. I thought Candlemas was in December but I'm not sure; I expected to learn that from this article. 12/22/2010
Susan Borko Your information about Hannukah is almost totally incorrect. I didn't even bother to read about the other holidays because they are probably false as well. 12/21/2010
Bob Marley pretty good website 12/21/2010
MidnightSun what about the pagan holiday, YULE? 12/16/2010
jane Hanukkah is not one of the most important Jewish holidays. It is a very minor holiday which has gained its prominence only in proximity to Christmas. Please change your content to accurately reflect this. 12/14/2010

Leena Good start, but just note that most of your celebrations listed are related to Christmas and Christian holidays.

Here are some others you left out:

Diwali: Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs celebrate every winter. Also called the "festival of lights" to commemorate the victory of good over evil.

Tet: New Year celebration in Vietnam

Solstice: Pagan celebration of the arrival of winter

Chinese New Year: the 15-day celebration of the Lunar New Year

Boxing Day: Celebrated in the U.K. after Christmas, also known as the Feast of St. Stephen.
