The Absurdity of Speaking in Tongues

Why would God have you speak in a tongue you don’t understand, when He surely has no problems interpreting your mother tongue? Why did God give such a gift back then or nowadays for that matter?

Not everything beneficial has to be understood by the limited human mind. Although we don't fully know how a meal gets digested in our body, we still can see the result that the meal satisfies our hunger and provides energy for our thoughts and actions.

Praying in tongues is like feeding food to the spirit through the mind. Eventhough we may not understand what we are saying when we pray in tongues, we ought to concentrate our mind on the things we are concerned about. Then the message is relayed to God through the Holy Spirit, who interceeds for us. The chants in tongues allow a person to hold a prayer session for hours at a time without feeling bored. It is a good physical exercise if you pray outloud with all your strength.

So praying in tongues trains the spirit, the mind, and the body all at once. The more you do it, the more faith, health and joy you can experience. Another reason for praying in tongues is that the devil does not understand your conversation with God.		 1/22/2008
