The Friesian - A Dressage Horse

| Kelly | Show People Ruin Every breed not only in horses but dogs too, especially here in America. The reason is in my opinion is it is a rich persons sport more or less and they breed to what they think it should look like and not to standards. Look at the Morgan Show horse, absolutely grotesque compared to the good ole Classic Morgan. How about the American German Shepherd, the color and the rear end of these show lines are absolutely wrong and those who have bred and those who have help procure this in all these breeds should be ashamed of ruining these beautiful breeds for money. |

| K | I agree. They are trying so hard to turn the Friesian into the perfect dressage mount that they are breeding out the traits that make them Friesian; high knee action, lots of suspension, strong thick build. They even shave their legs! At this point, all you have is an overpriced black horse. I'd rather see people go with a black warmblood than to destroy the hard work of those who tried to recover the Friesian from extinction. Or at least have two stud books so that the baroque, classical beauty doesn't disappear completely in their effort to get a warmblood type. Especially when you consider, the traits they are destroying are technically for the 5% of people who actually end up in high dressage anyway. :( It is very sad. | 12/18/2010 |
| Brigitte | It's a shame that the breed gets taller and slimmer, the old baroque- stile friesian will soon be extinct through a modification of sports-demands and judges who have to obey the modern wishes for the newer stile. As if there are not enough other breeds on the market, why modifying this beautiful old breed to a sports-star. These days you have to look up a lot of breeders to find the old original friesian-horse. |
