17 and maybe In some cases, killing a child is the right thing to do. The baby dosen't feel pain up until 18 weeks, and hasn't even taken human form yet. So up until tthe 18th week it is a complete and total humane thing to do. Taking into consideration the life the child would have. I support abortion for one reason, and that is not in the best interest of the mother making a choice for "something she didn't want". It's out of love and care for the child if you can't give it the life it deserves. I do believe every child has a purpose in the world. But personally, I would rather have my child dead than being put up for adoption and thinking or bring told "my mommy didn't want me" or "I'm a mistake". And if it is taken into an adopted family ? How will I know this child is being taken care of well ? It could be beaten, and yelled at every night for all I know, and could grow up in a terrible place with a couple that presented themselves well. Also, what if the child dosen't become adopted even as a teenager ? Then no one would consider it for adoption. And I don't see all of these "pro liife" supporters going and reaching out to these kids most in need of a family and love. In some cases the baby is sick with an illness and will die a very slow and painful death 3 weeks after birth. Would you rather that child die quickly and painlessly at a young stage ? Or slowly and in terrible pain for a long period of time ? 1/6/2011

Tracy I disagree with abortion on more than on account. Do I believe it is murder, yes. Think about how you would feel if someone killed a child, even a baby in front of you. A helpless little being who did not ask to be in existence. Does it cause pain to the child, I can't tell you that. But knowing two women who WANTED their children and gave birth to stillborns, I know that as a human, holding a stillborn infant is painful. They would to anything to be holding their babies today. Maybe banning it isn't the answer. Change the laws. Make these women see an ultrasound, hear a heartbeat at 5 weeks. The harsh part of me on the other hand says, why care about making sure that abortions are "safe". Someone is dying that day. A future "Emily" or "David" to a childless family. A beautiful young child that would be running and playing with others on the playground. I have 5 children. None of them were "planned", but they are all loved and I would give my own life to protect theirs. I have been happily married now for 5 years, but that wasn't always my situation. My ex-husband used to hit me, call me horrible names, and cheat on me. Is that my ten year olds fault? How about my 8 year old son? Or the 6 year old daughter I conceived the day he raped me and threw me from a moving car? To me, there is no "choice". Maybe I have the right to do what I want with my body, but I do not have the right to do whatever I want with or to another person's body. I sit here holding my newest addition who is a two month old boy while his 4 year old brother gives him a sweet kiss on the head and says I love you to both of us and tear up knowing that someone, somewhere, is making a decision to kill a child. As far a religion, yes I'm a Christian, but that is not why my view is the way it is. Everyone sins and falls short sometimes. Everyone can be forgiven. I cry for the defenseless children who are dying for no fault of their own. Men and boys need to have responsibility also. It is NOT all the womans fault. Most of the time she is only doing what the man wanted. As a society, we can change this trend. We can turn it around. We need to stop fighting with each other and find some common ground. Angry young women and men are hurting because they have no where to turn. The help is not there for a young couple struggling. We worry about flood relief and earthquake relief for other countries while our own citizens are suffering. 9/13/2010

Mrs.Ida D'souza I have aborted a 3 month baby as my husband and my mother -in-law used to harress me and I also had my elder son who was 7 months. I did not have the courage to bring up 2 kids as there is still no good relationship between me and my husband as he loves only his mother, he is not even concerned about me. He tells me he would have divorsed me if the elder son was not there. How could i then continue with the pregnancy. But i feel sorry for that baby, I feel like committing suicide, I am truly sorry, I sometimes feel I should'nt have aborted that baby, infact I would be happy seeing her alive today. R.D.Collins I really enjoyed your article I found it very informative. I am a christian who recently with all regret had to participate with my son's girlfriend abortion. She is 15 and her mother is disabled in a wheelchair and her decision was to abort, we, my husband and I tried to convince them to keep the baby but they were totally against it . I do pray that God will forgive us all and that the family will be able to live with the decisin they made with out much regret and unforgiveness to themselves once the become saved. 11/24/2009

Russell Okay people...let's talk intelligently here. Firstly, you can't ever "prove" that something is morally right or wrong since morals are things that people conceive to be acceptable. Here's something to get you thinking though...for those of you saying that "it's against God's will." Technically speaking, God gave us our large brains and opposable thumbs and developed frontal lobes. It's because of this that we are able to perform such miracles of science. Just for the sake of argument, God gave us the tools to manipulate genes and perform abortions so therefore we are doing God's work. 3/31/2009
kyle s. Abortion is murder. In almost every society across the world, murder is considered an abomination. The taking of a human life is something taken very seriously. Both religion and science agree that human life begins at conception. The prominent human embryology text says that life begins at conception. It is clearly stated that the zygote is in fact alive and human. Therefore, to end it’s life would be murder. The embryo and zygote are considered alive. If you take someones life, it is murder. Therfore, the destruction of an embryo is murder. Even the Hippocratic Oath says abortion is unethical. From the ancient Greeks until now, it is clear that abortion is wrong. It is always wrong. Even in the case of rape, it is still wrong to kill the unborn baby. Why should we punish a child for something it had no control over?Besides, there are many other things, such as a morning after pill, that can prevent the pregnancy in the first place. melanie I totally disagree about the whole abortion issue. I'd rather have a woman have an abortion than her not take care of her child. I think there are plenty of circumstances that a woman should be able to have an abortion. I think it's a natural thing for all animals and creatures to give up their offspring for the well being of their other offspring, themselves, and their families. I do like that you know the facts though. I hate when people build opinions and biases when they don't know the facts. I, myself, believe a woman can do whatever she wants to her body, including abortion. Besides, we have too many people in this world anyway. I don't think making it illegal would solve the problem of too many unwanted pregnancies. Abortions will be done regardless if it is legal or not. At least with physicians doing it, its a much safer procedure. There should be much more opportunities for prevention of unwanted pregnancies, such as, cheaper birth control pills, sexual education, cheaper preventative procedures, ext. 3/11/2008
