Dog Breeds: The Mutt, The Purebred And The Designer Dog

Are well-established dog breeds like the German Shepherd or the Labrador Retriever genetically superior to the humble mutt or is this merely an old wives' tale (myth)! So the question of the day is "What's In A Breed?"

summer i think this purebred vs. mutt thing is a joke. i dont think poeple should turn up their noses because were a dog ancetry comes from.i for one am a mutt all my ancetry is scatered across europe but people arnt descusted of me.so it shoulded happen to dogs. 5/18/2009
mmm We had an Irish Poodle crossbreed, one of a litter of ten born to a champion American Standard Poodle female and a purebred Irish Setter male. HE WAS THE BEST DOG IN THE WORLD! Smart, quiet, strong and loyal, plus he didn't shed. His name was Leo and my family will love him forever. I want to breed Irish Poodles (I don't know why they call them "Doodles!") 12/29/2008
