mirna Martha, thanks for your comments. Persuasive speeches means speeches in which you persuade your audience to do something. But that will depend on what you want them to do. You might be encouraging school kids to do their homework, or an adult crowd to attend your garage sale. Of course, you will write your speech according to that idea, and will keep it motivational.

The ideas I have given in my article are about how to infuse fun in the speech. Like, for example, if you want to encourage kids to do their homework, you could start with a funny topic about how Harry Potter, being a wizard and all, still has to do his homework. You will have to think up the jokes and gags. The point is, by starting out with a familiar subject (Potter, in this case), you are relating yourself with the audience. Much like how a Master of Ceremonies warms up the congregation with his/her humorous talks at the start, and then gets them to participate in the way he wants.

I guess you got the point. The topics here are for making a start of your speech. Then, lightheartedly, coax people into what you want them to do. That's what I have said - it all depends on how exciting you can make it.

I'll try to help you out more. Do you have a persuasive speech to give? Tell me what you want your people to do. I will guide you on how to make the speech. :)

Thanks,
Neil
