Neil The Christmas cactus is a tropical plant; not a true cactus. So you need to water it accordingly. During the time when the Christmas cactus is in bloom, you must be very sparse with the water, or it could cause white rot on the leaves. You can water it, but go very slow. Do this - put water to soak the soil properly. Then wait until the top few inches of the soil are completely dry for the next watering. This could take up to two to four weeks depending on the area where you live.

Also remember that humidity is more important to the Christmas cactus than the water in the soil. You can provide humidity for the plant by keeping a glass of water nearby. The evaporation will give it enough humidity to bloom.

Happy Holidays!!!
