Merrill I've had reoccurring kidney stone formation since I was a teen and I am now in my mid thirties and still form them occasionally. Drinking Cola with high levels of Phosphoric Acid has caused an increase in the formation of Calcium stones not reduced them and it’s not because cola drinkers are dehydrated. Low ph levels cause calcium to be released into the blood to restore ph balance and the body takes this calcium from the bones to accomplish this. Chronic cola drinking may even contribute to Osteoporosis by leeching calcium out of the bones over a period of many years to keep ph balance. Also, low ph levels also cause less calcium to be dissolved in urine, and alkaline urine causes more calcium to be dissolved. It is Potassium Citrate that is converted alkaline in the body that prevents Calcium stone formation by increasing the amount that can be dissolved. Urine ph should be about 7.0-7.5 as is easily measured with hydrion paper. 8/14/2008
