The original Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Clown College was founded created and run by BILL BALLANTINE, a truly great clown. Odd...every clown is great, you know. The greatest clown is only your own favorite one. BILL BALLANTINE was the GREATEST CLOWN of ALL! Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain? You can read all about it, for real, in: "CLOWN ALLEY" published by Little Brown. |

I purchased an old trunk at a garage sale years ago and inside this trunk was a mans whole life history and his belonging's. He was a circus clown and was born into the circus- both his father and mother were circus people too! The original, very old clown suit that he performed in was in the trunk as well as everything he owned. He peformed in the circus til he was seventeen years old then he was drafted into the army. Im not sure if he died there or not. Now in the years of having this old trunk unfortunetely I have lost the trunk in a terrible flood and pretty much everything in it besides a few things. I had a few pictures and can identify this clown- who is one of the earliest clowns and performers in the early 1900's I even want to say late 1800's but I dont think that is right. He was a clown of Ringling Bros, I want to say Barnum & Bailley as well but I know it was one of the earliest traveling circus's and even before it became Ringling Bros. And I have the circus clowns hat which is very old with a few articles and letters. I want to say his name was Roy- its hard to remember bc its been a few years since the flood maybe his dads name was Roy or he was getting mail from someone named Roy. The hat that this clown wore is round and threated in like a black, gold, and red thread, It has a threaded picture of something on the top-flat side of the little hat. Maybe a key or a lamp. Maybe something else Im just describing what I think it could be. It was a circus family that traveled with a horse buggy Im guessing? One picture I had showed a carrage and circus people in front of a large tent. with elephants. Please call me at (254) 210-1385 or (254) 631-0610 if you can help me find out or have any information on this clown and what the value of this property may be worth. Thank you, Reece Sharp |
