John Lanza It's great that your are highlighting the importance of teaching children about money. I think this is as important as teaching them their ABCs and personal hygiene. I would like to add, though, that I think parents should start with an allowance much earlier - around 5 or 6. An allowance can be tied to chores or not - there's a debate about this and it's a parents choice - but an allowance is an important tool to demystify money and to get kids comfortable with the subject. My DVD, "The Money Mammals: Saving Money Is Fun," helps teach kids about the value of money by instructing them to "Share & Save & Spend Smart" and I suggest setting up a 3-bank system to allow them to do exactly this.

For more on this topic, check out my blog on "Kids and Money" by "Googling" "youngkidsandmoney" or "the money mammals" We even have a 3-bank system that kids can customize themselves.

Thank you again for addressing the vitally important issue of teaching kids about the value of money.
