The Parable of the Fat Kid

Once upon a time... there was a kid. A kid who loved to eat. Not unlike many kids, really. But this kid was different. He didn't just enjoy the occasional cookie or bowl of ice-cream. Or burger and fries. No, he lived for food. And when he wasn't eating... he was thinking about eating.

Chesley This is an interesting article. I think it is the responsibility of a parent to monitor the amount of food they feed their child. If a young child is eating huge adult portions, and junk food, and fast food like Burger King all the time, calling the kid fat won't change a thing. It is supposed to be about health, not appearance. There is a way to instill healthy thinking and habits without creating a negative self image for the child. I think parents should be honest with their kids about eating habits and the long term effects it can have. The issue is lazy parenting, and I think that spills over into a whole host of other issues besides obesity. 8/27/2007
