Don’t be Afraid of the Pagans!

With so many different and sometimes conflicting definitions of paganism, it’s difficult to pin down what is meant by the word "pagan." Most self-identifying pagans in the United States follow today’s modern, Western version.

Blackwood Being Wiccan, I liked this article. A lot! It was brief bu succinct, and pretty darn accurate. Even though it is almost impossible to have Neopagans agree on any definition on what they believe, I still think this was a nice summary. Yes, I'd tweak a few words here and there, ad some capitialization in a few places, but as a whole, it can stand on it's own. Nice job! 12/1/2008
Moss Bliss You are confusing some people... Paganism is not Wicca, but Wicca is Paganism... that is, Wicca is a subset of Paganism. There are still violent arguments over whether Wicca is a reflowering, reconstruction or merely echo of paleopaganism, but it is still at heart Pagan.

Satanism is a variant (really, several variants) of Christianity, and is not Pagan.

Witchcraft, by many definitions, is the practice of natural magic, and is not itself a religion, although Wicca does include some aspects of witchcraft (as do some branches of Christianity and most other religions).
