Mohammed Owned Black Slaves
Mohammed owned several black slaves. Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya relies heavily on the prophet's biographies written by great ancient scholars. Therefore, he is regarded by Muslims as an authority, a primary source and a leader among the students of Islamic religion. This scholar tells us in his book, "Zad al-Ma'ad" (part 1, pp. 114-116), the following:

"These are the names of Muhammad's male slaves: Yakan Abu Sharh, Aflah, 'Ubayd, Dhakwan, Tahman, Mirwan, Hunayn, Sanad, Fadala Yamamin, Anjasha al-Hadi, Mad'am, Karkara, Abu Rafi', Thawban, Ab Kabsha, Salih, Rabah, Yara Nubyan, Fadila, Waqid, Mabur, Abu Waqid, Kasam, Abu' Ayb, Abu Muwayhiba, Zayd Ibn Haritha, and also a black slave called Mahran."

Even in modern times, in Saudi Arabia the homeland of Islam, the common word for "Black" is "Abd" meaning slave.

What was Mohammed's position on freeing the slaves?
In one instance , a man freed a slave that he kept as a sexual partner. When Mohammed heard what happened, he auctioned the boy and sold him for 800 derhams to Na-eem Ebn Abdullah Al- Nahham. (Sahih Moslem vol. 7, page 83)

According to Mohammed, the punishment for committing adultery is different between a free man, a free woman and a slave-woman. The man is to be flogged one-hundred stripes and be exiled for one year. The free woman must be stoned to death. But the slave-woman (since she has a monetary value) will not be exiled or killed, she is to be flogged one-hundred stripes. If the violation is repeated, the slave-woman is to be sold.(Sahih Al Bukhary vol. 8:821 & 822)

Islam Looked Down on Blacks
Islam is a religion, whose sacred Scriptures contain explicit denigrating remarks about Black people.

Mohammed referred to Blacks as "raisin heads". (Sahih Al Bukhary vol. 1, no. 662 and vol. 9, no. 256).

In another Hadith, Mohammed is quoted as saying that Blacks are, "pug-nosed slaves". (Sahih Moslem vol. 9 pages 46 and 47).

MSMegalommatis You are right, and I have only admiration for your courage and determination.

Your voice should be heard more and more, until Oromo leaders understand that the position they have they must use for the Benefit of all the Oromos, and not for their pride, supposed prestige, and personal cult.

If more people like you, sharing your ideas and approaches, come to surface and bombard the multi-divided Oromo leadership on daily basis with texts and demands liek yours, they will be forced to accept the reality and compromise their ill-fated personal dreams to the needs of an oppressed people that happens to be theirs.

Acaalu I have thought long before deciding this comment. It was in 1991, when I was 11 years old, that I received such a call from my own mind when I saw the OLF army leaving my city AMBO. During that time, fraction of seconds forced me not to join the army to jungle for struggle of independence. Time passed and I got some how matured while deepening my analytical understanding of "why we have failed to make it after such a long struggle?" As it has been the case, the our people have been unfortuante interms getting the right leadership! As a matter of fact, we have leaders who killed more than 20,000 Ormo individuals to resolve their problem through force. This continued untill, the local elders outsmarted the political leaderships by endagering their life to the peice between the organizations. With such tragic failures, again today we don't see any clear and genuine mechanism that will hinder past mistakes! I prefer to die a worthy death than live under occupation. But, I am always alarmed by the question my mind poses to me " what if my struggle results in the worest ormo dictators (almost of all the leaders we have seen so far arememebers of such a subset) that the cruel Abysinians? This fear of mine has been confirmed by the way the OLF and other political organizations hijacked the oromo diaspora and their instutions such as Oromo commnities in many states of the USA and Scandinavia. I have wittnessed in my bare eyes such a tragedy. I am ready to die for independce! My degree from teh most prestigeous university of the world doesn't worth the freedom of my people. But, in the absence of a good leadership, I must swallow the bitter truth-- silence seems the only option at my disposal! 8/6/2007
