| KC O'Dunn | I have an issue with the loss of word smithing among journalists. "...Authorities visited the home, which appeared neat and well-kept from the outside..." The word 'kept' means to hold something. The word 'kempt' means tidy or well cared for, which from the context of the sentence is what the writer was looking for. The sentence could have read "Authorities visited the home, which appeared neat and kept from the outside...". | 8/2/2007 |
