Seven Wonders and One Deception

Defining what a wonder may be is not an issue for democratic vote. Gods are not elected, Kings are not elected, Wonders are not elected.

Nemrut Dağı is just an indicative superb and extraordinary site that by definition is a Wonder - voted or not!

There are other places one could include in a list of 'More Significant and Yet Ignored Wonders'; Takht - Suleyman, Palmyra in Syria, Baalbek in Lebanon, Philae in Egypt, Napata more than Meroe in Sudan, Axum in Abyssinia are all more impressive, sophisticated and utterly significant achievements for the World History. To which one could add Yazilikaya, Naqsh-e Rustam in Iran, and many others.

What was Machu Picchu after all? A small city atop a strategic hill.
The same could be said for the classical city of Santorini in Greece or the fantastic theater at Tauromenion / Taormina in Sicily.

However, the worst point in the ill-fated project was the amalgamation of modern constructions with great monuments and archeological places dating back in the Antiquity and the Islamic Ages.

At the end, anyone could say 'my villa is the best wonder of all'!!!

Culduz Beautiful. I also found the elections of world wonders ridiculous and arbitrary, and now I'm relieved others, including UNESCO didn't take this event too seriously.
It's nice you mentioned the Nemrut Dağı and the Kingdom of Commagene, where Turkish composer and pianist Tulüyhan Uğurlu gave a recital on the peak of Mount Nemrut in to give a message to humanity. This I mention because I find both your ideas quite similar and complementary.
