What Is Your Attachment Type?

We all have been born in a certain environment that now, as young or mature adults cannot do anything to change it. From a very early age –the first two years of age- we learn if we can depend on the people around us to meet our needs or not. This will influence the way we attach to people in our maturity years.

amalia i enjoyed reading your article, it is concise, well-documented and it enables the reader to fully understand the issue of attachment. thanks for posting it. as to myself, i am astounded by the amazing significance that attachment styles have in our lives, from the cradle to the grave. i am mostly a fearful avoidant and i get so frustrated that i do not get to fully experience the gift of friends. sometimes i feel bubble-wrapped by the presence of the ones that i love, other times i feel so alone and rejected by the same people that gave me that exact feeling of comfort five minutes ago. and i see that it isn't a change in their perception of me, but it is my perception of them that alters. it's a struggle, i believe conducted by society trends, between one's (inter)dependence and one's independence, accepting others or oneself as the only comfort-provider. 5/24/2009
xia cole I am definitely dismissing avoidant. There is an obvious paradox in your article: you state there is no such thing as a perfect person yet the description given to the positive, optimistic secure attachment style would suggest that these individuals are perfect in there social environment. 11/9/2007
