Paul This is an old urban legend; a falsehood. Birds eat grains, and rice is a common grain. "That tradition began due to the fact that rice is bad for birds to eat." Does this statement reflect other inaccuracies in the article. I now question the validity of the other "facts". 4/9/2009
ZM, San Diego Rice isn't harmful for birds to eat - rather it's a mess to clean up (as is confetti), and is dangerous for guests on the steps of many churches, since most are wearing leather-soled shoes, and could slip on the hard grains of rice. 1/17/2008
