School uniforms cramp the style of gang members. They have to recognize each other by names and faces instead of by flaunting aggressively painted jackets, T-shirts with obscene messages, clunky jewelry, and things like that. Instead of ‘my gang’ and ‘your gang’, they also have to think in terms of ‘our school’. It’s a hard life. On the brighter side, it helps them to live another day and go on to survive in college. |

I think that school uniforms can be a good idea. But it takes away the fredom for a person to exspress his or her self. What you wear often times reflects the kind of person you are at home and in public. I do think that school dress codes are good at my school Chamberlin middle school we have to wear fingure tip short/skirts and we have to have three fingure length shirts long ways. This is a good idea for keeping yourself out of the bad catigory of being called verbal names. If you are not following the dress code you are punished and usually have to call home for apropreate clothes. But in my opinion i dont think that school uniforms are nessisary to a school or their reputation. I do think that how you represent or portray yourself reflects on your school. But from a fifteen year olds opinion i dont think school uniforms are nessisary. |

I know that in my school they'd work like a charm, and uniforms don't necessarily consist of slacks and a tie. many schools use slacks and a certain color shirt. thats pretty reasonable. i personally tink that school violence cant be helped with an outfit! i know when i was in high school there were a lot of dress code violations and school uniforms could of helped! when teachers dont have to pose as "fashion police" they can focus on more important things such as gangs, drugs, and school fights! uniforms can be expensive but are a better security system than other things! how can you take a learning enviroment seriously when even your teachers look like slobs? personality is key and can be achived in many ways trew the uniform! there can be plenty of options like different colors per grade, adding acsessories and many other things! it would cut out the hassle of getting dressed in the morning and making fun of other students, which happens very often in a middle school or high school enviroment! |

I am ALL FOR school uniforms. I went to public school from k-8 and just transferred to a private boarding school this fall, Baylor. I think our uniform is actually kind of cute compared to some. We have a grey skirt option, a khaki skirt option, and a plaid skirt option, and all 3 colors also come in skorts, and we also have pants, though nobody wears them. We have white, grey, or red polo shirts purchased from the school that we wear Tues-Friday and a white or blue button up dress shirt, short, long, or 3/4 sleeved. All clothing is bought from the school, we are allowed to wear sweatshirts with the school emblem or fleece jackets without hoods, and any shoes we like with visible socks. We have all the freedom we want to express ourselves with shoes and socks and whatever color fleece pullover or raincoat, and whatever backpack.I don't feel oppressed by our uniform whatsoever, it's almost a relief to not have to think about getting dressed, and you only have to buy one of each color in all the clothing, and you're set for the year. Because you only wear 'nice/normal clothes' on the weekend, you buy much less, as the clothes you wear after class are usually ratty athletic clothes. I love uniforms. |

I feel that school uniforms should be in all schools. One reason is it will stop all the peer pressure about what you have on. Another thing is I have a teenager, and it takes her 30 mins in the morning to decide what she is going to wear. I go to school in the mornings to and I beat her getting dress. Plus the kids just look some much nicer in the uniforms all neat and stuff, and they all look the same. |
