you forgot a few main ideals about why people are against school uniforms. One is the fact that they peel a conflict with the first amendment. I think children should be able to express their style or fashion, but certain limits should be made so that kids are not able to bring guns or weapons to school in their baggy clothes. School uniforms would prevent that, but style is important to show your personality. |

In my opinion, I think that we student should not wear school uniforms because it's too boring and it may be hot to wear them. Like for example, in the summer it gets very hot and sticky to wear uniforms when it's hot and sunny and in the winter it's very cold to be wear those skirts and those T-shirts. It was an interesting piece. But I have to disagree with you when you said that a moderate dress code could achieve the same results as uniforms could. I attend a public school and witness/hear of fights all the time about what kids are wearing and I hear plenty of complaints from teachers about student's lack of respect for the "dress code". I know my class is trying to move our school toward uniforms. We believe it would be beneficial in many ways to the students.
When it comes to "freedom of speech through clothes", I believe that students are just as capable of finding ways to express their individuality through other means than their clothing. What they say, how they say it and multiple other things are available to accomplish freedom of speech.
Cost. If schools pay for the uniforms or set up networks of cheaper outlets where uniforms can be bought then that takes a load off of parents. As for buying an extra set of clothes, if they are already buying their clothes at discount stores, and uniforms are being supplied for them or they are able to buy them less expensively, then money really isn't that big of an issue. |

School uniform may look good but wouldn't a childer (like myself) want the ability to dress freely and as i want to. I mean, right now i am wearing a white spaghetti strap shirt with a Megadeath sweat shirt, blue jeans and a white skirt. i dress this way because it makes me feel comfortable and free. To instiute a uniform policy is a great way to improve our community schools and cut down the amount of violence we have going on. Uniform does indiffereate the students from criminals and controls there freedom. 1. People say that kids learn by example, well what kind of example are the teachers of these schools setting when they come to school in their everyday clothes, dressing the way they want, and being able to be comfortable. How is this fair to the students? Some of the women teachers come to school in open toed shoes with short skirts, what kind of example is that?
2. My daughter is a straight A, excellerated student, she does so well in school she has moved up, she gets letters for scholarships. She got suspened because her shirt was not tucked in. Well one of the scholarships declined her because she got suspended. This could of possibly ruined her chance for a better education after high school. I feel this uniform may have well ruined her chance at a better life.
3. What happens if a child gets kidnapped at school and the police say "What was your child wearing today" what am I suspossed to say, "Oh well just take a look around my child looks like all the rest" How are the police susuposed to find my child out of hundreds of children who all look the same?
Where are my childs rights? This is not fair, It should be up to the parents on what their child should wear. It just makes me sick that my childs future may be ruined, all because of a uniform. Since the first time my daughters uniform was not right my child has been picked on about every little thing she does and wears by teachers, and other staff members. Something needs to be done. More parents need to stand up and fight for their childrens and their childrens rights. I will not stop fighting.
