Popcorn Ceiling Asbestos

Popcorn ceilings were very popular from the late 50s to early 80s and almost always contained asbestos. Removing a popcorn ceiling built during these years should be done professionally since the risk of asbestos exposure is high.

Paul Cody One of the best articles on this subject I have seen in the over 30 years I have been in the Ceiling and Wall Industry. I worry about my health as I use to spray on Popcorn Ceilings in the 70s and 80s.
I do Texture Removal in Vancouver Canada and I come across a lot of young family home buyers
worried about the health risks to their children from their ceilings, especially in older homes.

J. K. Good info. when I was growing up I lived at my Great Grandmas' house and we used to scrape off the popcorn ceiling- it wasn't until recently that I found out that it contained large amounts of asbestos. Years of daily exposure can't be good from your health! And like I said earlier this was Good info. you provided! 7/2/2009
Bruell the government took sales and labor taxes when the popcorn ceiling was installed.
So i think the government should help to pay for the removal and disposal!

Lindsey I removed a popcorn ceiling for a friend of mines entire house. I was unaware of Asbestosis and the horrible things it can do you, later in life. My qustion is: Since it is after the fact and I do not talk to this indiviual to find out how old the home was is there a medical way to find out if I indeed inhaled enough asbestosis to be concerned? 4/22/2008
Jeannie wagner Last week my son took down the pop corn ceilings in two rooms that were taped off with plastic. But i went in there quite a few times to film the procedure and the dust was very fine and even though we took great care there is a fine layer on the books and book shelves from when we took down the plastic, shaking the dust to the middle and folding the plastic in to trap it. I did not wear any mask during any of this---didn't know of the asbestos---I thought that was outlawed years ago. The medical news on ABC or CBS or Fox should make this known. I have started coughing and have developed a raspy voice that comes and goes. How much does a test cost and is it worth it now that the contamination has already happened? 3/14/2008
