This site is most helpful. I only recently found out that my level of potassium was low and did not even know what the symptoms were and what problems it caused. Thanks to your description, I know more and I was also able to find the foods that are high in potassium. Thank you so much. |

Helped me out. Low potassium levels go a long way towards explaining much of what has ailed me lately. Repeated blood tests during the course of diagnosing/treating a recent ailment show that I'm running low on the potassium. Good thing I enjoy most of those foods, but the MD also has me taking a potassium supplement. |

This was very helpful to me. Almost four weeks ago my potassium almost bottomed-out causing a panic attack at 3am. They gave me two white pills of 400mg and sent me home. I've had about 6 panic attacks this entire month & I constantly feel a heightened sense of fear. I've been eating foods high in potassium, but it doesn't seem to be helping me. I tried to walk the park the other day, but my legs still feel heavy and weak. I've gone back to the doctors and all they do is check my blood and send me home again. Could what happened when my potassium bottomed out be affecting my nervous system where doctors can't find anything? I am very scared & confused! |

For those of you who are low in potassium, also strongly consider checking your magnesium. the usual serum magnesium tests aren't good enough, you could be low and have enough in that test. have an exatest for red blood cell magnesium level. Read up on transdermal magnesium oil (magnesium chloride) treatement, and the many many effects of chronic low magnesium. Magnesium regulates calcium levels, and may be involved in potassium regulation as well, but I haven't researched that. Do Google transdermal magnesium oil treatment and perhaps read a book or two. It may improve your life. |

I have had A-fib for about 7 years. I have been reading that potassium can help . I take lopressor and ameodirine, I have had an ablation and nothing is working . Every trip I have to make to the hospital, they have to give me potassium and magnesium. Does potassium have any effect on A-fib? |

wow! on dec 21st 2003 i woke up and was on the floor, I couldn't get up. the night before i had bouts of vomiting and diarrhea. my whole body was stiff and yet i had use of my arms. i was like this for six days. since it was a holiday there was no access to drs. they were all on vacation. after i was put in a convalescent home till they returned i was seen by my physcians and they couldnot diagonse what had happen. it appeared that my body started to mend itself. to this day no one was able to tell me what had happened. I had a neck fusion plate still in and all drs. thought that it might be related to it but had no remedy or advice to give me than to wait till it happens again. fast forward to a month and i have quickly lost alot of my hair, slight dizziness, very dry mouth hidh blood pressure, tired most of the time, still able to push myself toswim 4 to 5 days a week. Looking for ammunition when i see my dr here in cc fl.33990 i need to know what to ask and do. last night i was surfing looking for answers, i now believe that low potassium was the problem. i am having some serious problems and feel that hope before this happens again i can get results to reverse the symptoms, and so, thank you for your siteand all i can say is wow! |

First I found out 10 years ago I had Type II Diabetes so I ate right, lost 35 pounds, felt wonderful, looked healthy. Five years later, I found out I was Vitamin D deficient, so I took 50,000 units of Vitamin D by mouth once a week for 2 months then went on 2000 units daily. Now, I find that I have low potassium. My blood sugar and thyroid have also been out of control. I take a lot of psychiatric medications for PTSD, severe depression, anxiety, insomnia, and mood swings. I also have something called Burning Mouth Syndrome which is terrible and I have had it for almost 6 years. I have also Restless Leg Syndrome and lately have been having cramps in my calves and thighs. I assume this is from the lack of the correct amount of potassium in my body. I just feel sometimes that I am jinxed or something. What can I do because I really feel desperate at times. |

I have just read the article on potassium levels. It's time for me to get my levels checked... I have just about every single symptom of deficiency. I take care of myself and watch what I eat. I have had some symptoms for a long time; others have crept up in the past year or so, which has caused me much concern. With no insurance, it is hard to get to the doctor. Check ups are essentially financially impossible. However, if I can get this checked, I would be "over the moon" (so to speak) to find all I need is one mineral. Hopefully, this hasn't caused something worse... I am so glad I read your article... |

Hi; I want to let you that I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure; which I can not explain how I came to that situation. By searching in many medical publication I learned that sweeting is one of the reducing factor of Potassium in human body. And then an other article about diabetic and hypertension i read that if you lack of potassium in your bady you are exposed to high blood pressure. Now two days ago I started to use potassium as supplement in my diet. I feel all morning headach pain gone, all discomfort during the day is gone. All muscle pain; which I use to fill when I come back from the gymnasium is not there any more. That is on my second day of my potassium in take as supplement in my diet. What you say here is most true and I believed to it. |

Hi Nilesh, The article is very informative, an I have seen half of the symptoms you have listed down, matches the symptoms I experience daily. Thanks for the info.

Muscle crush injuries may precipitate hypokalemia. Mine went undiagnosed, nor treated, for two years. A single dose of 600mg reestablished stasys. In that time I could face not the least stress without severe reaction. I lost everything important to me. |

as recent as yesterday i discovered i have extremely low potassium. This of course has made me quite anxious as i was given results via telephone by gp.I was instructed to increase my intake of "slow k" which i have been taking for over a year in conjunction with several other medications prescribed by my ENT surgeon due to treating ...middle inner ear inbalance...am confused and uncertain what all this means and how severe it may be.if any one has a similar related situation and you do not mind responding it would be much appreciated as it may at least ease my current anxious state. cheers |
