Kathy Koons We had flooding in our office, that we rent. Drywall was replaced along witth tile in both bathrooms. However the carpet on the cement floors was not replaced or removed with the landlord claiming mold does not grow on cement...he shampooed the carpet with anti mycrobe stuff and now I am having servious eye symptoms(swollen, itching, burning)could there be mold under the carpet? LindaWright It seems that it is impossible to request help from others when you are the victim of abuseive decisions made by government agencies and corrupt businesses. All we want is to find a support group that will assist us in obtaining a place to live that is notlife or health threatening and to protect future tenants from the same situation. We are not physically oer financially able to just to up and move, leavebehind our personal possessions.

Quinn Wright we are suffering from all of the above symptoms and the landlord and HUD have deemed the problem was resolved despite the ongoing phyical efrfects we suffer. Who can we contact to bring action before this becomes a matter of fatality? The prior owner of this unit actually paid us to be gone the day the new owner came here to view the property which was sold in a quick sale. The new owners have not addressed the situation and was going to evict us when he became aware. [HELP]! Please contzct us with any and all suggestions that can help us through legal, government or support groups. Phillip\ I just recently replaced 4 walls and I believe it was black mold that was the cause of the change. But it was after I tore 2 walls down and put them back up that I was told it was black mold. I may have breathed in the particles along with the dry wall that floated around me. I also believe the dry wall was still a little damp. Pam Chambers Wow. We had our school tested and since then I found that ANY mold spore will cover the black mold spore-it is so delicate. We have lots of respirator infections, nosebleeds and skin lesions. More needs to be done, I agree 3/30/2011

a contractor started this work in my home, and made the whole thing into a huge nightmare. didn't contain aanything, put in air movers, and left for mexico on an extended vacation. that is, after illegally charging for fictious services on my VISA charge ...DESPERATELY need to find an honorable company ! PATRICIA I have been here 5 months. Every day I get sicker. The doctors are bafled and are still trying to help, but we are running out of options. I no longer eat solid food because my esopagus does not push food down and when it finaly gets to the flap that holds the food going into the stomach it will not let the food in nor my pills. We do not know when I will get my meds or how much at one time which can be deadly for me. OSTOPAROSIS, AND BONE DISEASE HURTS; SO I TAKE 40 MG. OF OXYCOTIN 4 TIMES A DAY WITH 30 MG. OF MORPHINE 5 X A DAY PRN, 800 MG. OF SKLATIN AT NIGHT ALONG WITH600MG. OF SERAQUELL, LYARICA, OXYGEN 7/24, ACID REFLUX. I GET 300 UNITS OF BOTOX A MONTH IN MY EYES AND FACE FOREHEAD AND BOTH SIDES OF MY NECK. I BELIEVE MY CARPET IS POISIONING ME. I HAVE CHANGED. Sharon. Welive in an apartment, and i believe there is mold as well as mildew in this apartment.. the closet smells of mildew and the apartment smells musty and like dirt at times... Also, my daughter has been sick with respiratory problems for about 3 weeks. Mel F. Can you contract black mold poisoning after being exposed to black mold only once. I'm asking because a friend sat on an outdoor chair for about an hour, which we eventually realized had black mold on it, and she has been consistently sick with most of the above symptoms. Michelle Balcom My daughters family and I live in a 2bd 1 1/2 bth trailer. My two grand children 4 and 21mths started having respiratory issues and having to use inhalers that were suppose to be temporary daily. Casey I too suffered from Black Mold exposure. Sad part was I bought an organic bed thinking it was better for my health to sleep on a bed that didn't off gas. I was told that the organic latex was mold resistant and it was but they forgot to mention that the box spring wasn't mold resistant. Last winter my family and I were sick, dizzy, brain fog, low grade fever, thought we had contracted some sort of weird disease. After months of agony, I finally noticed the box spring on our $3,000 organic bed was covered in mold. Thank God I figured it out before my husband, two dogs and I were dead. I had 3 sinus infections in one month, my dogs were wheezing and my husband was getting rashes. We removed the bed and scrubbed our room. One thing that really has helped us with our symptoms is an Infrared Salt Sauna, which helps to detox the body, and Himalayan Salt Lamps in all rooms. David Cardwell My home was considered by my insurance company as a prexisting condition before I bought it. They covered the mold and bacteria cultures and testing which I was reimbursed $2500. They also covered the Master Professional Building Inspector to stands on my side and of course the insurance companies side and says I got screwed by these people. Yes people with mold poisoning and bad pathogenic bacteria do get sores on their bodies and now there is a new fungus-mold that has come out of Canada called C. Gotti which will kill 1 out of every 4 people who contact it and it is spreading through Washington, Oregon Idaho and Montana and is heading east and is mutating as it gets into colder temperatures and it is deadly the CDC needs to get on the ball and doctors need to go back to school and learn more about this extremely dangerous antigen called mold and it is extremely harmful to children. yes the yellow stains that you see on your walls and ceilings is a percurser to a problem of moisture and humidity has a lot to do with this to but there are molds that grow in the dry and they are very dangerous to humans too. My blood pressure went from 109/61 at a steady rise to 189/157 and I ended up in the Salt Lake City Veterans Hospital in Infectious Medicine and was there fore 11 days where I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Edema Super Imposed on Interstittal lung Disease and all kinds of pathogenic Bacteria in some 25 sores on my arms and legs and went through 5 biopsies while the CDC Doctor Stood right there. These Doctors where ill eqipped with knowledge about mold and bacteria...because where there is MOLD there will be BACTERIA they live in a SYMBIOTIC MUTUALISM with one another one producing nitrogen (Bacteria) and Bacteria feeding on the fungus/mold. David Cardwell 7/11/07 bought a modular home that was transported 800 miles from Bend, Oregon to Eureka, Montana and cosmetically remodeled by owners and sold by Century 21. Within 4 days and hard rain storms my son and I became very ill. We had a mold inspector check the house and they found 10 times the mold spores inside the home as compared to the outside ambient air. Was told that the results should be just the opposite. It continued to rain for 26days strait and the moisture came through the siding and the baseboards of the home. Further inspection of the home showed stactybotrys chartum aspergillus/penicillium, cladisporium, fusarium basidiosporium, trichimodium, ucladium, chaetimodium and approximately 10 other types of mold. Then we had the house cultured and that produced findings of cocci and bacillus gram positive and negative. I came down with yersenia, Dermititis, frunculosis, prurigo nodularis,respiratory and lung disease, pulmonary edema, bleeding lungs and cellulitis, and they found arthroconidial forming filmentatious fungus in my blood cultures, and also allergenic rhinitis in my sinus. Not one of the Doctors I seen knew anything about mold period,except to say that I had intrinsic exposure to mold and bacteria (Kleibsiella Oxytoca) being the worse except yersenia is bubonic plague. y son had similar sores all over his body as I did. I've filed lawsuit against the owners who sold me the home, and the Real Estate Company Century 21and the realitors who watched the home being remodeled and the Registered Professional Engineer who wrote a fraudulent Structural Integrity report, knowing that the remodeling was being done wrong and knowing that he home had a mold problem just as the realitors knew and the owners of the home who sold it to me knew, since they did the work. This sickness that I have is going to slowly kill me, so what price do you put on a human life? My precious dog died July 19, 2010 from suffication do to lung disease contact from the house.. Martha Garcia this site is VERY informative--however I do have 1 question. I live in an apartment and there is a yellow stain in the ceiling of my bathroom--I have brought it to the attention of the owner & his response was to remove the wall--ask me to watch for drips--he then replaced the drywall & painted (he did not treat the offending pipes) & it was plain for me to see black on the boards & pipes. Joseph Jolly I do apartment maintenance and I get quite a few complaints for mold. I always intstruct the tenants to ventilate as humans exhale water. I recently had to tear out a bathtub due to moisture. The tub was probably leaking for years as their was major mold and evern dry rot in the walls that had to be repaired.
That night my sinuses started acting up. It has been about 10 days now and I am experiencing dizziness, cold and flu type symptoms. I have felt exhausted and cant explain it.

Natalie I just move out or my old house about 12 yrs or so and moved out due to mold issues. I wentto the ER about two days ago and they the routine EKG basic blood panal. AS soon as everything Came bk it was free of everything but what about the mold. The doctor was very unknowlegable about he whole situation explained to him he seemed to have ignored my questions about toxic mold. HE HAD ABSOLUTEY NO KNOWLEGDE About It. He went ahead and the diagnosed me with anxiety disorder because I was apparently I had some pychosomatic symptms going on which is totally absurd. I went into the ER with allergies all over body inflammation and kidney pain. Cali C ok so my mom just bought a mobile home like almost 3 months ago and it seems like ever since then ive been having memory problems,constant dizziness,my blood pressure shot up to 190/137 and im 17 years old, my hearts been acting weird, chest pains, ive began twitching (idk if its from heart medicine though), i have fatigue all the time, my vision gets blurry at times, i have trouble concentrating, sometimes my hearing fades, i have been getting HORRIBLE headaches since staying in that house, i have virtigo all the time, sharp pains in abdomen, i just got a UTI infection, etc... i suspect mold poisoning because when my mom first moved in there were pieces in the ceiling that had fallen and the guy said needed to be replaced because of a leak in the roof. there were 3 spots... and we just found a spot in the pantry. Then yesterday a neighbor stopped by and asked if the mold was gone from our home? and we were like WHAT? and she said about a month before we bought the house she stopped by and saw a sign on the door that said CONDEMNED DUE TO MOLD.
i just want to know if this is wats causing my problems? would i have side effects this soon if it was from the mold? i have an appointment for a neurologist to test for MS and i guess other things and im becoming pretty scared. Jessica I have a two year old and we are living in a mold invested apartment. Because the manager wont fix the problem I had to involve the health department. Since we have lived here (one year and a half) my baby has stayed sick with ear infections, RSV, hand foot and mouth disease, all kinds of breathing issues, and of course the every day commen cold that we cant keep away. My husband has been having memory problems, moos swings, and bad anger issues, all that started about 6 months of us living here. He has also been having problems with balance and fevers. I got my first UTI after just 3 months of living here and been having troblem with that since then, I get real bad headaches every day and feel fatigue all the time since we moved in. so for anyone who is having a mold issue or thinks that they might have mold, do not take it lightly. Barbara Bushnel I have experienced this and have all the symptoms above and my landlord refused to fix the leak in the laundryroom and I noticed black mold on th einside of the dining room area close to the ceiling. He would not acknowledge any of this. i finally moved, I lost my deposit so it was a very difficult move. It's hard renting a place and not having a deposit for the new place I moved to. Bit I lived at the old residence for 3 years and was so sick all the time..I thought it was mildew but it turns out to be BLACK mold...I had no idea..I just know I was always sickly. 5/10/2010
BETTY SCHULTZ I have a cyst on my tonsil and the doctors just tell me it will finally go away but it is irritating when It makes me cough all the time. It is on the right side of my tonsil. I have a small piece of tonsil left and why can't the tonsil with the cyst be removed instead of letting it irritate me all the time. Plus my breath has to be bad because of the terrible taste that I always have in my mouth. A friend of mine told me she was having the same problem. She said the doctor took out her tonsils and she still continued to have irritation in her throat. She then went to another doctor for another opinion and he told her after she had test done that she had a case of Black mold in back of her mouth. Damp walls, and black mold in cupboards, ceilings walls and even some of our documents showed signs of the black spots when left for a while in our rooms.
We begged the landlord to make some attempt to rid the place of the dampness, but he ignored us both.
We finally left the cottage and moved to new dry modern bungalow three weeks ago and my cough became worse, as did all the problems outlined in this article.

I finally suffered with a high temperature, fever, and coughed blood, I used four boxes of paper hankies when coughing, and my weight went down One and a half stones in three weeks after being confined to bed.

I had not registered with the doctor in the region, but an emergency doctor visited me, and prescribed Amoxillin 500mg. and advised taking the full course of 42 capsules.

The Amoxillin worked, I have stopped coughing, but I ache in my kidney regions, my hands shake, I am not thinking straight and my wife constantly checks me for using wrong words.

My appetite is still poor, but I am not being sick since the "cure" and I have to visit my new doctor when I feel a little better.
My hair loss is not normal, ands my eye sight is blurred. My joints ache, and I can't pick up a pint pot of tea by holding it by the rim, not the handle, my fingers have no strength.

My shoulders ache and I have pains when sitting or standing without any strain on my arms and back, simply sitting still is painful.

My kidney regions are very painful to touch, and bending is not possible.

Kneeling is not possible, I have to call for help to get to my feel.

My wife has had to assist me going to bed, and getting out of bed. I am in a mess, and I am delaying the visit to my new doctor in case I pass on my problems to others in the surgery.

If you have any advice I would welcome hearing from you.
Please help if you can. Breathing is painful, and even writing this report with many many corrections is hurting me right side lung area back,

Your obvious knowledge of the poison is noted, hence my request for help.

If you touched black mold wash your hands imiditly with warm water for at least 1 min. SHAUNA To anyone who has black mold there is a landlord tenant law that gives the landlord a few days to have the mold fixed. should have the health department out first for proper testing if it is black mold then they have to fix it or if you do want to try to take care of it yourself there is a spray that you can pick up i think at any hardware store its a spray can but it covers the mold if it cant be cleaned and prevents it from spreading in that area i have had it in a place i used to live. i took my 3yr old at the time to the er the next day i wrote a letter to the landlord and enclosed the papers from the er the mold was fixed within a day. i had only lived there for 2 months before he got sick 1/13/2010

I had a mold specialist come to my apartment and take air and surface samples, after many visits to the emergency room, and endless unansewered questions. It is extreamly impossible for doctors to detect mold in your body. I moved out of my apartment this year, and am still very sick, but their was hope when I found a doctor who treats patients for toxic mold. The treatments consist of Hyperbaric Oxygen treatment and taking antifungal medications. It takes about two months for the treatments. Beverly I have worked in a black mold infested enviorment since last March,8 hours a day. Airconditioners and ceiling fans were back. What should I do as the house we live in is a rental and the owners do not seem to care if there is mold, even though we have told them that I am ill as well as my wife. They told us to pour bleach at the outer foundation and that is all that can be done. Kim My room smells of mold really bad. I have been sick for 6 months with no one knowing what is wrong. doing one test after the other. I have the majority of those symtoms above. Concerned For everyone that does not have the knowledge of fair housing. Please check it out. A lot of companies will go in and paint over the dark molded walls and lease them out. No one should ever go through this. If you find mold in your home or you are experiencing any health problems please get checked and get a lawyer. These companies will be the ones paying for your health cost, your moving expences and any other expences the judge orders them to pay. Know your rights. Please dont risk it. For the landlords that want to give you issues and not fix a thing. Write them a letter, do it in front of people, tell them about it in front of people. Dawn I was recently put into the hospital thinking I had a really bad sinus infection. I was having extremly bad head aches, uncontrollable shaking, memory loss, light sensativity, weakness, fatigue. I felt like I was going to die. I found out there is a foundation leak in my apartment that had not been fixed. There are 3 other people in my apartment that are starting to experience the same symptoms. My6 question is, with all of the test that was done on me this never came to mind. Is there a specific test that would check for mold poisioning or does the standard testing the hospital did check it all? I was also checked for meningitis. That was negative. Chery Every article I've read about black mold has been rather conservative. This one was the most informative so far. Fact is, in Florida, after my roommate had terrible sinusitis, I found the A/C system filled with black mold. The vent in her room was aimed at her bed. She was very sick. So I cleaned the A/C casing and duct. She got better right away but the mold, apparently, got on the skin of my left arm. A few weeks later it had eaten into my skin. I woke up itching and that area of skin came right off but there was no bleeding. I thought I had cancer. I had never seen anything like that. The doctor put something on my arm that killed the mold within five days but it had already done enough damage to leave three inches of scarring. I continued to have problems with my eyes, sinuses, neck, etc, for years after. Over ten years later, a doctor asked me "Did anyone test you to find out if the mold got inside your body?" No, duh. And that doctor did not tell me what to do; she just left the question hanging. I was happy to find this site and get this information but I think a lot more research could be done and anyone living in a tropical area should be warned not to touch, breath or stay in a room with black mold! 5/22/2009

Melvin D. Tate, Recently, over the last month and a half, I have experienced a prolonged episode of sinus itis. It usually occurs after a change in temperature in; mainly in the spring. My symptoms usual disapate afet 3 to 4 days. However, my present exacerbation has been dragging on for weeks. I have been to my doctor about this particular episode several times, and no remedy has help. The major symptom is a blocked left nare occasionally accompanied by intense headaches and nasal pressure. I had recently moved into a new apartment, and there is a leaky bathroom facet where water stands upon the face bowl, and standing water and moisture on my kitchen counter overnight. I have done a thorough cleaning of all suspect surfaces. I have reported these things to my apartment manager, but I have received no satisfactory results on his part. I was released from a local hospital last evening. I under went a nasal CT and an MRI scan, and the results where that a have a potentially life threatening nasal fungus destroying my left nasal bone structure. What can I do to make absolutely sure that I have contracted this fungal infection from my new place of residence? 5/8/2009

w.walker we recently found a severe case of black mold in our home. We found seven pipe leaks, spotted walls and ceiling, and eight square yards of rotted floors..I have started 2 1/2 yrs ago having grandmal seizures, migraine headaches , and worsened asthma.how much of this could be caused by black mold? Angie I have a friend who recently passed away in January. His loft apt was covered in mold! Leather chairs walls, floors anything & everything had some sort of growth on it. He has/had all of the symptoms above. Do you think that it's possible for tumers to grow due to & caused from the poison around him? He had one large one on his liver, a small one on one lung, & a large one on back side of his stomach. He went into doctor on a Mon. was admitted & passed within 3 days! Please let me no if you have heard of these developing from mold.

Sharon I think this is a good article; however, there is not enough information available within the medical communities in order to obtain an accurate diagnosis and treatment as the government is suppressing such knowledge due to fear of litigation. When affected patients attempt to advise their medical practioners of their malaise from mould exposure, most doctors view their patients as hypochondriacs and/or misdiagnose the condition, such as fibromylagia or rheumatoid arthritis, etc. Doctors do not seem to connect the fact that if a derivative of penicillum mould can save countless lives, what kind of affect would similar mycotoxins have upon the human body in a random and uncontrolled environment? McGill University has already identified 10% of all hospital related deaths can be traced to aspergillus mould, not to mention Legionnaires Disease, so what does this mould mean for people with compromised immune systems when it is lurking behind their shower drywall? I still believe we are in the Dark Ages when it pertains to discovering the real truth about mould, particularly when it's main function is to biodegrade whatever host it happens upon. Human health (& pet health) should take precedence over capitalism; however, most governments bank upon ignorance. 10/31/2008

Leauna this article is good, but i still havent found the answer to my question. I have finally figured out that i was most likely sick from mold (hair loss, foggy brain, resp symptom, etc.) but i need to know how long it affects your system, does it ever fully leave the body? Keep in mind I was never "treated", I just moved the kids and I out of the house...and this is now 10 years later. Yes it helped a great deal, but does anyone know more about long term effect, or answers to my questions or how it is treated in the body? 10/22/2008

Tom A year ago and for several months prior I had among other symptoms, difficulty swallowing, muscle spasms, muscle discomfort, twitching, and many other symptoms listed above. At the time I had a car that I drove alot and when I sold it I realized that it had mold growing in the wheel well of the trunk. Not just a little, it was spreading throughout the trunk. This was due to an apparent water leak. I saw several specialists and was tested for everything from MS to ALS and several other Nerve dabilating diseases you could think of. Thankfully, all were negative. Still I felt terrible and my CPK levels were abnormally hi. Between 9 - 11. When I sold the car, over time the symptoms began to go away and eventually I was left with the typical aches and pains of a 45 year old man.
Could the mold have been responsible for these symptoms.

Nora Borgeson I recently discovered what appears to be black mold in our master bathrom and ensuite shower area. My son doesn't believe in black mold, but my daughter has been sick for years and began hallucinating when sleeping in the master bedroom and also in her Grandmother's musty basement. Fortunately I found this mold and removed it, a few days later I sensed a strong moldy odor while eating in a local restaurent and later returning home the same day I experienced a strong smell of what seemed like moldy or damp drywall dust. No one else could smell the odours. Later that night I had difficulty sleeping, needing to cough as if something was caught in my lungs. Could that have been from exposure to black mold? Shane McP Air Purifiers do not filter out any particles. They are not regulated by most governments because they are sold as "purifiers" not filters. The only filters that actually work are HEPA filters. Air purifiers can actually degrade air quality and make people ill. They generate ozone (O3) which is a harmful pollutant when it is not in the ozone layer. Think of the smog above L.A., same stuff.
