loulee I have a male and female who have been together (apparently happily) about a week and just produced about 75 eggs. I do have a plant in the aquarium, so Mrs. B has a place to herself. My question is, if I remove the bubble nest--which Mr. B is taking extremely good care of, to avoid fry in the bowl, will these two just stress out trying to produce a nest and more bunches of little B's? 5/21/2008
Helen Y. Mishim At first my male betta was ready to mate. Then After almost a month I was ready.(even the female). Now I put them togeather, my male seems not to confidentat first. Then he was exited about it.But the female just hid.Is this normal?

kate panthera I think that the whole idea of keeping these animals in captivity in horrible. I see displays where the fish are kept in a glass of water so small they can't even swim in it - imagine someone putting YOU in a glass box so small that all you could do was stand up and sit down. The "tanks" for these poor animals are no better; from what I understand, they can all fight each other regardless of the sex of the fish, so they must all be kept separate. This is psychological torture of the animal - forced to live all their lives in a tiny tank or glass of water, with nothing to do, nowhere they can go, swimming endless loops around and around, and without companionship. THESE ARE LIVING CREATURES - NOT DECORATIONS. Anyone who can put themselves in the animals' place for even a moment can see that this is abuse. Stop abusing these poor creatures, and do something worthwhile with your time. Sincerely, Kate Panthera 4/25/2007
