I have two Pit Bulls a male who will be 8 in October and one of his female puppies, she is 9 months. These are awesome dogs! Forget the media hype, it is nothing but stereoyypes, any dog can be mean and aggressive, it is absolutely the way they are raised! By babies are good with kids of all ages from babies to teens, any adults that are welomed into our home. With young children, the dogs are very protective, making sure you know if the child is upset or crying. They are great guard dogs and family members, if I let someone in my house they are fine with that person. However, if someone tries to walk in that the dogs don't know, that person will quickly exit as the dog is doing its job and protecting its home and family! I love your site and the unbiased truth about these pets! |

I had a Pitbull while also having a husky/German shepherd mix and they got along find and I lived next door to 2 other Pitbulls...no big problems...one developed a crush on my dog actually. |

We have had two pits...when the first one died at 14 years old we were devistated...he was kind. gentle and loving...we acquired our second pit (blue) at the ripe old age of 8 weeks and he has been a joy ever since...he is now 2years old and more loving and gentle than the first, if you can believe it...he is the best dog in the world! |

RTV, I wouldn't describe this article as 'very accurate'
Pit Bulls generally don't make good guard dogs... a properly bred one (which is rare now) should be friendly with everyone, strangers included. They can and will defend their owners if provoked however. Many Pit Bull Kennels will keep Rottweilers or German Shepherds to guard the kennels because a Pit Bull will happily get in a car with anyone, and are easily stolen.
This article says they aren't good with other animals... that is totally untrue. When another animal is raised as part of a Pit Bulls 'pack', they can be the best of friends. We have two Pit Bulls, 3 cats, 2 pigs, 1 horse, chickens, and 2 ferrets. ALL of the animals get along wonderfully together.
The AKC has never recognized the APBT, they have always registered them as American Staffordshire Terriers. Staffordshire Bull Terriers of other registeries are a completely different breed, much smaller and more compact than the APBT or AmStaff.

pit bulls are not visious animals and they have a very bad reputation. it all depends on the trainer because they are the ones who see how they act and should treat them with love and care . and fighting pitbulls is not the awnser |

Interested in getting lab/pit bull mix puppy from aniamal rescue and wonder if the labrador in it will temper it from the pit bull part...estimate about 3 months old and want it to replace lab(14 yrs old) put to sleep...and as complanion for 13 yer old Aussie shepard. |

WELL A MANWHO HAS DONE SOME HOME WORK ON THIS BREED OF DOG. YOU MAY WANT TO DO SOME MORE. I HAVE BEEN RAISING THE PITBULL AND AMERICAN STAFFORD SHIRE BREEDS FOR ALMOST 30 YEARS AND I MUST SAY THAT LEARNING TO BECOME THE ALPHA DOG IS A PRIORITY. THE 58 DOGS THAT I HAVE KEPT OVER THE LAST 30+ YEARS HAVE BEEN PERFECT EXAMPLES OF THE "TEDDY BEAR" TYPE THAT YOU MENTIONED. IN ALL THESE YEARS MY DOGS WERE NEVER ALLOWED TO FIGHT ,NOT EVEN FOR RANKING RIGHTS . AND NONE, I SAY THIS AGAIN, NONE NOT A SINGLE ONE OF MY DOGS EVER SHOWED VIOLENT OR AGGRESSIVE TENDENCIES TOWARDS ANY PERSON , EVER !!! NO PERSON , NOT EVEN A MAN WHO BROKE INTO MY HOME HAS EVER BEEN BITEN OR INJURED . MY DOGS DID CORNER THIS MAN INSIDE AND IN ONE SPOT FOR 3+ HRS UNTIL I RETURNED HOME. I WILL SAY THAT 1 OR 2 NEIGHBORHOOD DOGS WERE SPANKED FAIRLY HARD OVER THE YEARS, BUT IF YOU GO WANDERING INTO MY DOGS BACKYARD AND PUT YOUR FACE INTO THERE FOOD BOWLS YOU GET SPANKED. NO NEIGHBORHOOD WANDERERS WERE EVER MAULED OR KILLED BY MY ANIMALS. AND AS FAR AS BEING GOOD WITH OTHER PETS, YOU TRY TELLING A 95 LB PIT THAT HE IS NOT SUPPOSED TO RESCUE AND RAISE AN ABANDONED BABY BLUEJAY OR OTHER OF MY DOGS THAT HAD FAMILY PLAY MATES LIKE FERRETS, CATS,GUINNIE PIGS, RABBITS AND POTBELLY PIGS THEN WE WILL DISCUSS THERE NONCOMPATABILITY WITH OTHER ANIMALS. I read somewhere on the internet (can't find now) that years ago, pit bulls in England were used an nannies! Is this correct? I'd like to bring this out to our Humane Society as we are trying to get rid of the law now on city books concerning "dangerous dogs". |
