| Catherine R. | It is completely irrelevant that the author does not believe in God. The main point of this article is the fact that our world is growing and so is the use of foreign language amongst everybody around the world. If you really think about it; our children now are growing to grow up and run our world. How can they run the world if they cannot communicate with the world. Most of your major companies now require knowing a foreign language. How can one trade with China or Mexico if one can not communicate with them due to the lack of knowing that countries language? So, I believe, learning a second language among elementary students should be mandatory as long as there was a specified curriculum for each individual age group. For the younger children it should be simple and easily understood. As they get older then it should get harder and harder as they go to the next grade. If one was to teach the basics in early childhood then as they go to the next grade more and more can be taught. Now Ms. Stimplestin had mentioned that her students wants to listen to rap music and watch Dora the Explorer, well Dora the explorer teaches children Spanish. The age target is very young. My neighbors daughter is 2 and she loves repeating Dora. Teachers can use tools like Dora to help teach the younger children. Rap music, well that is a whole other subject. If students are dying from not understanding the language then the teacher should change their techniques on teaching but yet staying with curriculum standards. | 12/12/2009 |

| alex | i believe this article talks about a great point when it comes to learning foriegn languages. Knowing other languages is critical in our world today, and i believe that we should make learning a second language in elementary school manditory. Kids at that age learn languages so much easier, and as the years go by it starts to get a lot harder. | 12/9/2007 |
| Pierce Egerton | If we put mandatory foreign languages in the elementary schools, what subjects will we cut back on? | 9/21/2007 |
| Agung Setyoko ; | I basically agree with the opinion that teaching foreign language to the early age student (elementary student) will give fruitful result. however, it could be dangerous if we do not have a good design for teaching model and neither have a good teacher. as what happens in my country, Indonesia, the English teachers for elementary school do not have good English command. therefor, the students get many errors in the use of the target language. at worst, it is implanted deeply on the students mind that they will bring the errors later when they enter for the higher level of education | 5/7/2007 |
| Sierra | I am interested in enforcing elementary schools to offer foreign language learning. Where is a good place to start? How could I get a bill passed? | 4/7/2007 |
