Roy B. Duck Dogs are a lot like humans, a lot of things can change the forecast on their longivity. I have had mixed breeds Schatz, died getting run over at age 13, Susie, put to sleep at 17, Shasta a Labrador, died going to bed one night before age 4, and now Sam, a Labrador Retriever who is healthy at age 20 months. It's sort of like humans and tobacco. One man smokes 20 years and dies of whatever, another smokes 60 years and dies of old age. Some things us humans can't figgure out. Around 1900 a writer said humans are about as smart regarding the universe as insects are regarding earth. 7/4/2008
Beverly We just lost our 16 year old doberman. He was moving rather slowly the last couple of months and he was losing weight in his hip area. He would still frolic with my other dogs, rottie, rottie/shephard mix & full shephard. I found him sleeping more and more through the winter, but he would alway get up to greet me at the door with the others so he could get his pat on the head. Wednesday when I got home my husband had been crying and I knew then after the night my poor Caesar spent that he was gone. He was the most loyal dog I've ever known and he was the alpha in our family of dogs. I gave him fish oil to ease his pain, but then he stopped eating a couple days ago and I couldn't ease it any more. All I know is we gave him a home of love and caring and he gave it back 200%. He will be missed by me, my husband and his best friends, Titan, Tyler and Max. 5/16/2008
