H bird Canadians do not deliver "punches" They are know as 'paddy whacks' (of Irish origin) and are like firm spanks to the Birthday boy/gals bottom. adding one more for good luck. 8/19/2010

Jennifer I am from Canada, and I have never heard of a birthday child being ambushed and having butter or margerine spread on their nose #2. I have lived in both Ontario and British Columbia, and have been a daycare worker, as well as a mother of 4. I wonder how common that Canadian tradition could be. 3/2/2009
