| Isabella Tomas | My daughter was diagnosed with SIDD when she was about two years old. There was this program called "Birth to Three" that would make home vists for children,I guess you could say,on the slower side of the learning scale.I knew there was something not completely right with my daughter, she wasn't speaking at all she would just babble, she also just seemed so angry all the time and I didn't know why.The Birth to three program tried to tell me she had autism, and I knew for a fact it wasn't that, she would make perfect eye contact with me as well as she was very social, even with her lack of speech. She was about to turn three and thats when the B-TO-3 program introduced us to Banta early learning program, and thats when we got the diagoses of SIDD from a specialist at the school. My daughter is now four and has improved by leaps and bounds since she is getting the proper ocupational therapy and speech therapy she needs. I knew nothing once so ever about SIDD at all,so when she got diagnosed I felt I had to learn more about this for myself. I still feel clueless at times and found this web page to be useful on were to go next.I also feel SIDD needs to be made more aware to the public,I didn't even know that it was out there. It makes me feel better that its being looked into more,so I can learn more to help her. | 4/14/2011 |
| emily | Thank you for brining this article to the atttention of others! So many people have no idea what SIDD is. My six year old has SIDD. We first noticed a problem, when getting dressed in the morning began to take much longer than it should. Socks espeically bothered him. He would scream and throw things; major tantrums would occur. Finally he was diagnosed, and now he is in occupational therapy and it has really helped. The therapist suggested some seamless socks for kids to help getting dressed in the morning. They are called Smartknit Kids Seamless Socks and they have been a lifesaver. Socks are no longer such a huge problem. I found them online at Therawear. If anyone else is having the same problem I just that you give them a try. I just want to get the word out to other parents who have had the same struggles that we have. I hope this helps! | 10/2/2008 |
