Great article. I quit WOW. Guild leader was obsessed and couldn't tell what reality and fantasy was. Actually quite sad. Swearing at me left and right cause I don't know the instance. NOt letting me into 25 Naxx because I'm not geared (I am easily btw) even though we clear it in 2.5 hours. I am 100% casual. I hate drama and being hardcore into it. If I go back it will be on a quiet server and on a very chill guild. Well said! |

I'm doing a research paper on behavioral addiction involving the influence of MMOs, specifically WoW as it seems to be the most popular, and I was recommened some articles here, including yours. I can't agree more with your comments about the amount of obsession and lack of enjoyment that WoW seems to be having on the populace. I emphasize the lacking part because games are now, according to research, giving an effect similar to that of a drug addiction - certainly doing drugs can be fun too, I guess, but drugs are by no means enjoyable when you end up neglecting yourself and your friends or just wind up dead. |

I sometimes just log onto either of my level 70 toons, go to Westfall or Loch Modan, listen to the music and enjoy the scenery. It is so very relaxing. |

Tim kicks ass... preach it lad. Too many gamers online these days who don't actually enjoy the game anymore. Arenas, and new welfare epics promoting "Bot Programs" in Battlegrounds etc. didn't exactly help. People aren't even playing anymore, they're "botting" and buying their rewards :S |

I honestly think that that is the best way to play a game like WoW, I have a lvl 19 Mage and quite honestly could care less about being the strongest, best geared character of all times, lol. Who cares? It's just a game! So let's enjoy it! Take an afternoon off, drink some coffee while completing a quest or two, then log off and put that brain into something productive and life lasting, like reading!!! - Just my thoughts here... |

Really great article!! That´s the way i think about World of Warcraft and video games in general. We dont need to spend an entire life to see the beauty of WOW. We can see it from the very start when we login. I have a paladin level 32, my only char, and have been playing wow for months lol. I can say i play 10 hours a week in average. So i dont dedicate much time to WOW as you can see. And yeah i read the story of the quests and apreciate deeply the landscapes, the excellent music and fantasy ambience that WOW creates. In the few hours im logged in, i live it like a dream, like reading a book, like a parallel life. I even have friends there lol. I really love the stories of Azeroth, and thats why i even read the Warcraft books. World of Warcraft fills my deep inner passion of fantasy worlds I have since childhood. But thats it. I only play it a few hours a week because i have responsabilities and a real life to live.
I can say WOW for me is like a meditation time, a zen time lol but no more than that.
Once again, really good article. |
