Poachers trapped and skinned three highly endangered Asiatic lions in their last remaining refuge in western India, officials said today.

JOHN RIDDEN India must be thoroughly ashamed of her-self for not going 'all out'
to both save and increase the number of tigers and lions in their
preserves.

India must realize that the solution to conservation of these rare and
precious animals is as follows.

1. The forest/preserve guards must be taken from the army. The army soldiers are taught to shoot to kill, and they know when not to
shoot. There must be an ab undance of soldier/guards so that the
poachers have ZERO chance of getting to the tigers/lions.

2. The world is holding its breath waiting for the Indian government to formulate a tough and effective plan. The current guards are not paid enough, nor fed or housed well. These guards are doing a viatl
job. They MUST be paid one hundred times more than the pay given to a soldier with the rank of Lt..
They must be instructed on the great value of their work, and have
periodic reviews of their progress and understanding.

3. Land. we keep reading that the preserves are short of land. Land
must be expropriated from owners/tenents at the edge of the preserve so that the preserve can br expandedCurrent land owners must be forced to compy with take-over. Tp help th em they must be paid three times the value of the land that they occupy

If these three demands are met, the lion/tiger population will increase at a healthy rate.

The Indian Government has to get off of its backside and DO SOMETHING. Shuffling papers is useless..		 11/8/2007
