Tamara Good suggestions, the only thing I could spot was the metal earing bit. This is true, it does reduce chance of infection, but be carefull not to wear them in cold tempuratues, the skin in your ear lobe is vulnerable already when you start stretching, and the extreme tempurature metal reaches in the cold could really damage them. Basically, you get frost bite on your ear lobes really easily. 9/20/2007

brandon i started gauging my ears at aobut the end of 8th grade
at that point i only had my left ear pierced and i was foolish at that time
and jump from standard size to a 6g it healed pretty well
but then it yank and it ripped it got infected and closed up
i then about 6 months later pierced them again and almost imediatly jumped to a 14 after that i went to a 6 and they were great but i lost one and had to go back to my 14's but i got new ones and my second holes pierced which i gauged that day to a 14 i bought some 10's and 8's
i made my first holes 8's and my second holes 10's then i jumped from 8 to 4 with my first holes and put the 8's in my second holes but again i lost one of the 8's and just let them close up but my 4's were tapers and extremely long so i cut them into plugs and then i bought some 4g double flared eyelets after i had the eyelets in for about 3 months i decide to stretch again and instead of doing it the right way i shoved a 0g plug in them and they didnt swell didnt rip didn't bleed and healed in about 2 weeks and now i have 0g screwon flesh tunnels and i plan to stretch them to a 00g (my goal size) and i plan to use silcone tunnels fold them and pop them in they expand and stretch out i can't wait to see the results

brian gauged ears are differn't for everyone. Your ears may or may not heal. I was up to a 5/8" plug and i took them about for about a month and it closed to about a 6 or a 4. I love having them, just know its hard to get jobs with them and also its not a fun process. after half inch for me was alot less painfull. the worst jumps are from 2 to 0 and 0 to 00. Then again it varys for everyone. 8/25/2007
Anna So I put a 14 g lime green neon taper into my ear and and wondering do you keep in the taper or do you remove the taper after a little while and replace with a pincher or a plug? 8/24/2007
Coyd Kills I'm up to a 2g,its way abtter to do it on your own,
And about the 00g thing,
He probably didn't have them in long enough,
any hole will seal up over time.

dylan. eh guys? my freind was at 00 and he took them out for like 2 months and now there about 6's? i know weird... im at 10 by the way :) thanks guys, anyone know about my freind? 8/20/2007
ravennn my ears have been gauged for about 3 years, and i went from a 10 to a 4, without any pain at all, or infection.
so i guess it just depends on how able you're earlobes are to stretch.....

elizabeth im starting to gauge my ears from a regular piercing but i got a 4 taper on accident . can i still use it to gauge? 8/19/2007
tracii t i gauged my ears from a size 18 to 5 16 within 3 months. i used tapers and silicone plugs. i was cautious and cleaned them often.

if you want to gauge them, but also want the choice of letting them go back to normal, either don't go passed 00 or rethink your choice.

i think people just know if it's right for them. if you're having any doubts i wouldn't rush into it. i always knew i wanted to gauge mine, and i don't plan on taking them out.

also if you're having the problem of people seeing them, maybe at your work or your parents don't permit it, i suggest getting flesh colored plugs. it won't be as noticable.

any questions,

nathan im at 2 inches. im almost 20 and have been stretching since i was 16. the best thing to do is to go slowly and use tape. you can wrap it around your plugs. when they loosen up wrap more tape and put them back in. theres no sense in sliding tapers through your ears. its bad for them. if you do it right you will never have to get scappeld. i got to a inch and a half and had to cut my left ear to 2 inches because i went to fast at times. 8/18/2007
danny this article is the very best article I've read so far. I have just started to gauge my ears and these instructions have helped alot 8/17/2007
sam.. oh yeah i forgot--whenever i stretched i used aveeno lotion because it keeps your ear moist and makes whatever you put into it slide through. which means it also prevents it from smelling bad. 8/17/2007
sam.. im in the seventh grade, and both my ears are a 13/16. i had to take them out for my brothers funeral and they closed in the time of 4 months to a 00. it took me 2 weeks to go back to a 13/16. i dont use tapers, just what i can find around the house..

r.killah In order to join certain branches of the military, the require you to close your ear gauge holes to the point where you can't see through them. I was at a 00g on both ears and now there closed to a size 8g i think. Anyway, one of the only ways I've heard that could fix this problem, would be to get them sewn up. DAMN HUH!?!!! The cheapest that I've found so far was $650 for both ears. So basically, I advise anyone who is planning on joining the military and wants ear gauges to think twice, unless your a big balla! 8/14/2007
Betchh. My ears have been gauged sense i was in 8th grade and I am now going to be a 10th grader. I am at 5/8 but it hurt like a bittttch for me going from 1/2 to what i am now.

I think I am going to stop soon.

It should take awhile from going back from a 2 to a regular size.
8/14/2007
Bettie if my ears are gauged to a size two, how long will it take for them to return to a standard peircing size? 8/13/2007
sahin where do you buy tapers in victoria (australia
8/13/2007
Amber I just gauged my ears to a 10.. the pinchers really work.. honestly once you do it yourself you realize it really doesn't hurt that bad.. you just have to kinda go for it and don't stop until it's done..

Incognito I gauged my ears and was going to stay to a 2 but then I got tunnels and get to a 0 then. Then I bought tapers [the almost bullet looking ones for those who don't know] and my ear lobe streched out very fast because of the weight. In less than a day! So I think it also depends on the person... I was able to put the 00 tunnels that same day without a problem. So yeah. I want to go for a half but that's it. These things are addicting! And if you bleed a little I don't think there is need for a whole doctor thing just clean and let it heal and wait a while. My boyfriend loves them =] he can stick his pinky in my ear lobes lol. 8/2/2007
Jessica-Erin thanks!
i started a year ago and my dad just saw them once i got to a 2G.
and now he's flipping out that they'll never close... and blah blah.

now i can show my dad this article.

Cody Good job,,But its way better to do it yourself than get it professionally done.
I gauged mine all the way up to an eight then let it close and Now I'm all the way up to a six.
But when ever I guage them I ALWAYS use Pinchers.
and I almost have never skipped any size.
But the one time I did..It hurt real bad.
If you have any questions about gauging,(cuz I've been doing it for 2 years)
look me up on myspace my end URL is
codyandtheband,
I'd love to help,

Julia this was very imformational except the writer seams to stress the safety too often, im concerned it may scare people wanting to stretch thier ears.
7/12/2007
shelb boy i gauged my ear out 14 to a 00 with holo plugs and they got ripid out in a fight and i had to git stichis and that was no fun now i am starting to gauge it agin with hoops i went from reagular pearacing size to a 16 then a 12 then a10 now i am a 6 gauge i would neaver use plugs agin i am going to stick with hoop. 7/9/2007
lilabe so i just took my gauges out yesterday. i have four total.. my first holes were at 2g and my second holes were at 4g. Ive had them gauged, various sizes, for the past 3 years or so.. but i never really did any research on the effects... now that i am i see that the point of no return is either 2 0 or 00g, and i was just wondering if anyone knew if that just depends on the person, because i was really hoping mine would go back to 18g. 6/28/2007
L.Davies. Good article, very informative and helpful for me as a fresh ear-gauger. 6/27/2007
Ariel Ugh no when you reach to a 0 gauge there is no point to turn back. It all depends on how your ear will react to the peircing and how well it stretchs or will stretch back. Never skip sizes because that just causes infections and blowing your ear out. Wash it every day and never use wood earings that aren't perfessional made because that'll dry up your ears and they'll rip in half. 6/8/2007
emo chique I didn't think it helped very much because it was talking about doing it yourself, I have pierced my ears myself but never gauged them. I am going to a professional place and letting him do it. 6/7/2007
nancy presnall dude i really think this is hipster and i am going to a double zero in about three days and i am super psyiced !!! 5/30/2007
fixted gooded If you gauge your ears do sea salt soaks twice a day. 8 oz. (1 cup) of warm water and 1 teaspoon of salt. It soothes your ears and draws out impurities. Don't use alcohol or Hydrogen Peroxide because it kills healing tissue and causes more trouble than it could ever solve. If you have pure Vitamin E oil (not mixed with anything else....you can pop that capsules) do vitamin E oil massages at least once a day and try to take out your ear rings for a little each day. It improves circulation and thickens your lobes. If you have trouble re-inserting your jewlery (which you shouldn't) use a water based lubricant and a taper to re-insert your jewlery. Gauging your ears takes time and care so if you don't plan on taking the steps you need to keep your ears healthy, don't even bother gauging because your ears will look like crap. 4/19/2007
Bamlikewoah Wow. The fistula can take up to a month or more to heal. Every serious gauger gauges with no less than a month and a half between each stretch...the every other month rule. Very important for thick and healthy lobes. 4/18/2007
Maria i just gauged mine to a size 14
...still very small.
4/18/2007
chy by the way the hole that connects from front to back is called a fitsula (sp) and it takes more then a week to heal! dummy! 4/18/2007
chy I have a size one inch gauge and you should be more specific on the pain issues and "lube" actually can actually have dirt and more bacteria caught into the gauge. Saliva works well. And the smell is plasma and trapt sweat shampoo and soap stuck in the gauge!
:)

true_piercer Who-ever wrote this article is very misinformed. Go to bmezine (dot com) for better tips on ear stretching. Most of the stuff in this article is not correct so I wouldn't rely on this to gauge your ears because that would be very stupid. bmezine (dot com) is a body modification website and it covers everything and is written by people who actually know what they are talking about. As a piercer, I would not trust this information. I see someone else just posted before me and by the name I am assuming they are also a piercer so trust the professionals and not some misinformed person with no training. I needed to write the website link like that because it won't allow me to post links. 4/12/2007
just a piercer When you get pierced with a piercing needle it doesn't remove skin...something most people don't know. It creates a slit. Getting a piercing that is a large gauge will not mean the hole can't get smaller and gauging it doesn't gaurantee it will get smaller either. A hole is a hole...no matter how it got there it will either close or get smaller...even stay the same. Pierced or gauged there is a good chance it may not go back to a smaller or original size after a certain gauge...normally 2 g. 4/12/2007
Kelly flanagan I also forgot to mention that a 2 gauge is considered the point of no return which means its less of a chance your ears will ever shrink to a normal 20 or 18 g. Think before you stretch... 4/7/2007
Kelly flanagan Actually it can take up to a month or more to heal and it should not be painful just uncomforatble. If you have issues see your piercer cuz usually docs arent educated on piercings just the infections. Use a water based lube to stretch not oil or petrol jelly. Also gold and silver are not good metals for a healing stretch or piercing. Steel needs to be surgical grade and even if u feel no pain it doesnt mean the piercing is fully healed or ready to stretch. 4/3/2007
Kay's H03 Yeah, i've been thinking about doing it for ahile now. Thanks for the information. And im deff. doing it with her. :] 4/2/2007
denalyn's hoe thanks for all the info
i can't wait to try it
i think i'll go have it done with my best friend though
4/2/2007
jj uh, i still think im gunna do it on my own. 3/27/2007
9 you shouldnt use oil based lubricants or petrolium jelly to lubricate teh jewlery it clogs up your pores and doesnt let your piercing breath or heal, use water based lubricants like k-y and wash the ear and piercing with antibactrial soap like dial or something it should have the active ingredient TRICLOSAN, don't use alcohol it doesnt kill the bacteria on jewlery. 3/25/2007
lovedit I gauged my ears and i loved it SO much!!!! DO IT!!! 3/17/2007
