Sharon My hubby was in pain for about 3 days trying "otc" he could get his hands on and nothing worked. So, I visited a few sites on the web and tried a few things. The only thing that has worked and is still working is the vanilla extract. He has been pain free for about 24 hrs now. 10/8/2010

Hope this helps This is just want I did that helped me so I thouth I would share.

1. Rinsed my mouth with hydorgen peroxide twice a day
2) Rince with warm salt water
3) used zinc lozenges(for healing)
4) Cepacol Sore throat lozenges( put in mouth near tooth)
5 NyQuil Cold and Flu -To reduce fever, aches and throbbing of the tooth and inflammation.

Also: here is a product I found very helpful Red Cross Toothache w/ natural Eugenol.

Chicago John I had a had time finding clove oil or so I thought till I went to the pharmacy and he told me about a product made by a co. Mentholatum its called Red Cross Toothache and the active ingredient is Eugenol and that is clove oil. It works wonders! 2/17/2009

I've done the clove oil and it does work. it burns like heck, but it does relieve the pain if not killing the root all together! i soaked a small piece of cotton ball and left it on my tooth that had broken in half. I will say when a different tooth started hurting a year or two later that root wasn't exposed by break, but more like in between two teeth it's been hard to relieve pain. i had to try and squeeze the clove oil. it was harder to reach the actual problem. i am going to try some of these other remedies listed here. thanks! 11/25/2008

jennifer I have a tooth that needs a root canal and I woke up with a toothache I took vicodin but it didn't do anything put on a topical medicine but only provided relief for a few minutes my dentist is not in on fridays what do I do 11/14/2008
