Clayton I =/ My dad is making me take Accutane. He used Anti-Biotics, but only until he could get ahold of it a month later. Ever since he got a girlfriend.
Several kids at my school had tried it. They were already messed up in the first place, but they assured me I didnt want to take it. That I should spit it out. I'm 15 hoping this doesn't have lasting side effects...

stacey Wow, someone who is anti-accutane AND selling something. What a surprise. If that crap worked my skin would have been clear years ago, like it is now AFTER using accutane with no side effects aside from 6 months of dry skin. Honestly, you have no idea what you're talking about, money grubber. 8/6/2009
Christine Your doctor has to tell you about all the serious side effects, and have to (by law) continually moniter you, with pregnancy tests and bloodwork.

The writer of this article seriosuly needs to proofread. I caught 2 in the first four paragraphs.

gg I took Accutane 16 years ago. Back then nobody told me anything about mental problems from taking Accutane. While on it I started having a lot of anxiety and started having severe hallucinations. I certainly was not able to ever suspect the drug caused that as it wasn't well known. Was misdiagnosed and put on Zoloft and within weeks (and I was only on it for 5-6 weeks) I started having tics and muscle twitches (which slowly went away after 8 years, after my brain repaired some of the damage), again I never thought it was the Zoloft as I was told it was harmless and had no side effects. It just got incorporated into my mental illness and hallucinations and I thought evil spirits were making my muscles twitch and giving me nightmares.

About 5 years ago I found a book written about it (Prozac Backlash) and found out the drug caused the twitches and nightmares I experienced extensively. Even found that in the US they were trying to organize a class action lawsuit against Pfizer and it's zoloft as it's the worst SSRI in causing tics (brain damage).

Three years later, I was diagnosed with schizophrenia and put on antipsychotics which didn't help and had awful effects and only further clouded my mind.

Only now am I putting the pieces together after I saw a naturopath and the first thing he said to me was that I was jaundiced and had yellow skin. Nobody had ever told me that before. It must have happened so slowly and imperceptibly and it's been like this for so long that I've always thought my skin was like this. It just looks like an olive colored skin type and nobody's ever noticed anything. Of course, I was on other acne medications which burned my skin and changed it's coloring also so I really never noticed anything different when I was on the Accutane. None of my other doctors have ever said a thing about my coloring.

The naturopath also said that the reason I have such bad reactions to drugs like Zoloft and the antipsychotics is because my liver isn't able to break them down and the go into my blood stream and wreak havoc with my brain causing anxiety and mental problems. Only now am I beginning to piece together the convoluted story that has taken 16 years to evolve. I believe that I don't have schizophrenia at all, the antipsychotic drugs only made it worse if anything because I believe my psychosis was caused by the liver damage and the unbroken down and undigested products (drugs and food) wreaking havoc with my brain. I'm very high functioning, can hold a job well, did extremely well in school and am very logical. I'm finally, after 16 years of this, going in to get my liver functioning tested.

I haven't been on any medications for 8 years but am still jaundiced. The naturopath had me on a very restricted food diet, could hardly eat anything because my liver isn't able to digest anything properly.

Amber This article is severely misinformed. There has been no proof that accutane causes depression. It does not damage your liver. I've been on it twice and it has worked wonders for me. 2/1/2009
Will I don't appreciate your scare tactics. Many of "you people" believe that the government or drug companies are out to get you and you wouldn't say that if a medication saved your life! Obviously that's not the purpose of accutane but in a different way it can "enhance" someone with cystic acne like myself's life. I deal with the side effects and get tested monthly for my liver, its all FINE! in fact it's nearly the same as it was since I started on 80mg! So before you dismiss this medicine as evil, take a look at yourself, I guarantee if you imagine your face with tons of cystic breakouts with a chance of permanent scarring all over your little face you would reconsider writing this! You have not nearly the valid proof than people studying this drug since it came out! Stop writing scare stories to veer people who NEED this drug for their acne plague and has lost their self confidence before of this especially disfiguring type of acne. Natural ways can be helpful, but they will not cure your acne, because the root cause is your oil glands, which accutane shrinks back to your pre-puberty size. For people who need this drug DO NOT listen to this post and get a medical professional's advice, not from these exaggerating lay people! 11/5/2008
Kim The "natural" tips you give to clear acne are complete crap. Trust me, I've had acne for about 10 years. I've done it all ranging from a healthy diet to exercise. Matter fact, exercise causes a few more breakouts from sweating. Just off the top of my head, I've used these prescription medications with absolutely no results: Retin A, Tetracycline, Minocyclin, Doxycycline, Erythromycin, Septra DS, Evoclin, Benzoyl Peroxide 6 & 9%, Hydroquinone 2 & 4%...must I go on. Maybe that stuff works for some with mild acne, but if you have sever nodular cystic acne, like me, nothing works. There are no words to describe how living with this type of acne makes a person feel. So before you all try to discourage it and give your nonsense tips you ought to consider how youdfeel about yourself if you've done all those tips plus more and still have disfiguring acne. I'm about to start Accutane and I can assure you the benefits of this drug outweigh any of the risks. 5/12/2008
