Col Great article, but a bit too much rhetoric for my liking. You've made out Macedonia's investment climate and day-to-day life as being worse than Iraq! I'm not denying the fact that the deep, institutionalised problems stemming from the inherent corruption, nepotism and overall poor economic policy of the nation's power brokers cannot be negated by a few quickfire tax concessions but labelling all of Macedonia's 2 million citizens as impoverished is a tad far-fetched. 11/14/2007
Sam Yes, there are true facts in this article. But I invest in Macedonia and I think that is the best place for investment in Balkan region at the moment. Low taxes, excellent professionals well educated and hardworking people.

Butter Fly There are many companies that are bought, owned and managed by foreign managers in Macedonia.
Thus, do you say they are also not doing a good job?
How about the energy sector, do you know how many investments have been made?
The country managed to cut the taxes before in 1998 and it worked perfectly fine, so the nex tax being introduced will not backfire.
How about the banks functioning bad? Who ownes and manages STOPANSKA BANKA AD? The Greeks, right. One year after they bought Stopanska Banka the bank bancruped with 30 billion euros. Now, the bank doesnt function properly???
YOU have to UNDERSTAND that THE PROCESS OF FOREIGN INVESTMENT DOESNT START NOW IN 2007.
THE RESULTS YOU ARE REVIEWING ARE CHANGED AND INCLUDE LOTS OF FOREIGNERS ON MANAGERAIL LEVEL.

The Ministers who are from NLA are ALbanians, they put pressure on the Goverment that if they DONT GET WHAT THEY WONT then the Ohrid Agreement fails..
The Albanians think - that due to the Ohrid Agreement now ANY WISH THEY HAVE - IT WILL BE GRANTED. That is to say, the little war didnt produce the results they wanted.. They wanted to have it ALL... Basically DO NOT INVEST IN MACEDONIA IF YOU DONT SPEAK ALBANIAN....

Those are just some remarks..
