Islam, Violence and History
The use of force and the official endorsement of it have been a constant throughout the history of Islam.

Forgot to mention something.... Not to condemn Christianity, but I was to judge it buy its followers historically; it wouldn't be that glamorous. For it has its own share of killing, blood spilling, slavery and poor abusing. I shall name the crusades, the catholic monopole of lands and goods distribution during the dark ages. the killing of all women that practiced herbal medicine for they were considered witches (by the orders of the church- France 1200 - 1400). the History of Slavery in the new Americas that was supported by the Church. The extermination of Jews in Europe that was supported by the Pope. .... and list goes on. Allow me to say ... "Let the one with no sins cast the first stone." |

Hello Thank you for your post. However I think that you missed some details at least about the "It started with the birth of the religion in the seventh century, for Mohammed violently imposed his will on Arabia." As stated through history, Mohammed did NOT attack Arabian until the leader of Arabia called the war upon him. After giving him the pact to do his pilgrimage during a certain period of time; well they tried to kill him and his followers in "Koraiish" by burning them while turning around mecca. However after escaping the lethal fire they denied his right to enter the village (the reason for the Hijra / exude to Medina) and even at that moment and just before the new pilgrimage's season they called they called the first war upon Mohammed. As for the rest of the wars made by Muslims after the death of Mohammed; it did not have anything to do with the nature of Islam as a religion. it was just a phase of expansion of a nation that happened to be Muslim as well. Yet I would like to highlight in addition the protocols of war in Islam that they are way forgotten now. The main rules in war is to declare it in advance (never attack cowardly) and let the opponent get ready. Never attack civilians and never attack the residential areas. therefore the war should take place outside but beside the countries, villages or whatever space it is. and the golden rule is to never attack elders, women, children or any weak or challenged people physically or mentally. Having that in mind. I strongly believe that Islam is a religion of peace. It's the human or better yet the followers that miss represent it by their faulty behavior. Also the judgmental outsider that has no clue about it and to tend to criticize it (Islam) through the followers. |

I would further add that women are given more respect in Islam as compared to any other religion. As far as the conditions of Afghanistan are considered, somehow superpowers like US and russia are more responsible for it. See the state of other Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia. Are they not well off? Do they have democracy? Aren't they peaceful? Is'nt there crime rate extremely low? How many women are raped there?
You need to ponder on these questions before saying that Islamic policies are not upto the mark. |

Dear Charles You can not say that Prophet Mohammad violently imposed his will on Arabia. You seem to have very little knowledge of his life and how he won the hearts of the people of Mecca. Though he was strong enough to beat them all up in any fight, he never did so. There have been instances when people misbehaved with him and that too forcibly. But even then he did not even raise his hand at them.
As far as religious battles are concerned how can you forget the Crusades.
However, I would urge you to get more knowledge of the Prophet's life before making another comment about the Prophet or how he spread Islam. PS: If you are really interseted in knowing about Islam and the Prophet pbuh, do no read what the westerners say or write about him but read what has been written about him by the people of his own land for they know what he preached and did and asked his people to do.
I hope you would understand his message. Believe me you will find out Islam is somehow very different from what Muslims are today. May Allah guide you the right way. |
