Bob Liepman I have been in medical billing since the mid '70's and this article is right on the mark. I have owned a medical billing service for twenty years and have evolved into a server based system, allowing access for staff and clients . The article did not emphacise that claim payment is dependent on correct coding (procedure, services and diagnosis codes) and knowledge of what payers require on "clean claims." These are the details of successful billing. While electronic submission is a great improvement over paper claims, it is primarily a more efficient means claim data transmission. One electronic claims clearinghouse offers code lookup as part of their free service. They get paid by the insurance companies that receive the easily processed electronic claims and are free to the billing provider or service. 9/16/2007
