Don After reading the biography you provided, I can under stand why you are so misinformed about Chinese Pugs. Before you try to make a living writing, you should probably do a lot of work on your research and, BTW, a little education wouldn't hurt either. At least, your articles wouldn't be so full of grammatical errors and you would know the difference between "there" and "their". 2/27/2008
Don Leslie I have been around Pugs for nearly 20 years - I have never seen a white pug. I have bred, raised and sold fawn and black pugs but have never seen a white one. In fact, I have raised both black pugs and fawn pugs from the same litter. I have bred a black male with a fawn female and vice versa and ended up with an almost even split between the two colors.

Also, pugs originated in China and were introduced to England many years ago. As far as I have been able to research, China is the only country of origin. If you look at paintings of some of the first Pugs in England, you will see that there is only a slight resemblance to the current version of the breed.

Pugs, like all breeds, look the way way they do because of the selective breeding that humans impose on them so they will look the way humans think they should. Left to their own devices, I suspect that pugs would not have such a flat face and would probably be longer in the leg, not so inclined to being overweight, have fewer breathing problems and be generally healthier.

As you may have decided by now, I do not approve of any kennel clubs requirements for how a dog should look. I see nothing wrong with being sure the breed is pure but take exception to trying specify their demensions.
