sure p.e. helps and is effective... but it does NOT encourage team spirit and can destroy peoples self esteem. as soon as we find a way to prevent that... |

I think children wouldn't be faced with so many health concerns if they got their bottoms off the couch and got moving around! More than anything though, this is the parents fault for allowing such attitude. Mandatory Physical Education is crucial and something has to be done today! |

Due to recent budget cuts, my daughters’ school in Tualatin, Oregon is reducing PE from two days a week to one. Although our PTA is sitting on a lot of money, we are unable to pay for teachers. Not only is the loss of activity/exercise terrible for our children, but it lessens the much needed prep time for classroom teachers. Does anybody know of programs that travel to schools to offer some form(s) of physical activity for kids.
Thanks you so much for your help. |

Physical Education is no longer mandatory in some schools here? What is this country coming to?! Yeah, yeah, we have an obesity problem and THIS IS HOW WE RESPOND?! |

P.E. is horrible, at my high school we are required to do it for 1 year. If you have P.E. you will look sweaty, ugly, and mess up your makeup. While I dreaded that 1 year of P.E., I am glad that it was only one year. |

Hi i'm a Physical Education and Health major at Emporia State Universtiy. I can't stress how much PE should be kept in our schools today. It's important not only to be fit, but have the knowledge to stay fit. In one of my course we learn that a sound body makes a sound mind. Exercise helps increase blood flow not only through your body, but gets it flowing through you mind. Students imagine sitting in class getting tired and restless (it's happens quite often doen't it?). Well increasing flow blood flow through your brain will not only increase your attention span, but free up space in your mind to learn more. Also PE today, is nothing like PE of yesterday. In many of my classes we learn to incorporate different subjects such as music, history, math, science, and EVEN english. All can incorporated into fitness, just imagine study for a test in another class with a simple modified game. Also team games taught in PE are becoming more modified to involve all students to participate. Imagine a kick ball game where everyone kicks the ball, and everyone in the outfield touches the ball. The games get so active, that you don't even know who wins. The best part is...It's fun! PE should be mantory, because it increases learning (sound mind = sound body), it gains team build skills, build leadership skills, gains them knowledge of the there bodies and how each one responds differently to different skills, it helps prevent obesity and other diseases caused by obesity, and finally it's a subject that can incorporate all subjects! |

also, If you want us to go out more tell the teachers to let up on the homework thats the reason everyone is always in side typing a essay, or researching, or just writing homework! |

I'm a middle schooler in the 8th grade 180lbs 5ft ,5(1/2)in, and I don't think that should happen. im in avid(a college prep class) and that class is replacing p.e! and im happy. in highschool I'm going to take pe for half a year then take avid! i dont want pe to be mandatory because that would be ruining my life to get a good education so...no. |

I think it's a shame that PE is no longer a requirement in schools. I am in the Marine Corps, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. My children go to Department od Defense school system and they have mandatory PE in their curriculum. I'm a firm believer that if it's not broke don't then don't try to fix it... Leave it the hell alone! Our kids are suffering becasue we are trying to work smarter but in the long run, only making it harder... |

i dont think that p.e shud be mandatory everyday because it is up to that student if they want totake it everyday and that would be there only elective and then the kids wouldnt be able to choose a class that they r interested in! |

Yes, we do need PE back in our schools. Schools are too concentrated on special sports that every child does not participate in. Every child should be required to have some physical activity in their daily routine, |

i believe that physical education should be mandatory for the reason that everyone deserves to have a good life and dont worry about people teasing them or choosing them last... |

Heck yea! We do need to implement P.E. as being mandatory in our schools. With todays hectic society most people don't have time to encourage their kids to be active. So why not have them exercise at school, a place for learning. Many of us can learn quite a bit through exercise. Rock On! |

If Physical Education should become mandatory it shouldn't replace the elective courses that the students are taking unless the student wants to replace an elective they have. |

We need manadatory physical education in our schools. I'm a physical education and health ed teacher and i stand strong behind my stand. Children are getting obsese and overweight than more before. the United States is the fattest we have EVER been. That is not a good thing. We need to shape things up and have more support for PE everyday in the schools. |

We need mandatory physical education back in our schools because people are becoming OBESE and it is descuisting!! And it could lead to heart attack, diabetes, cancer, etc. and it's just not healthy at all |

i think that we should have madatory p.e because your body can be big and fat and all you want to do is eat and you can die by overweight so thats why we need mandatory p.e |

I think kids these days are coming to a stage where they eat too much, don't get enough excercise, and are ending up getting diabetes because of their obesity. |

I am a student, from Smoky Hill. We don't have p.e. mandatory. My mother says when she was young she had it mandatory. When i was in middle school my class tried to make p.e mandatory, but i didnt work. |

many schools are requiring a pe class that is not helping anything. it is one thing to require a good, educational active learning environment, but to require every student to take a class in which they make you bounce a basketball for 90 mins everyday is a bit unfair. there are many other classes that could be benificial to a students academic career. i'd be all for pe if it acually did anything to "help the obesity crisis" but in all reality, it does nothing. it should be made an elective, that way the kids who enjoy it can continue taking it and those who would like a more worth-while class can take that. |
