Jayme M. The problem with sports memorabilia collecting is that the items only have value because people want to them to be worth money. As more people get into the collection, fewer and fewer are doing it for the "right" reasons, that is, collecting memorabilia because you want the memorabilia.

In the stock market, this is called speculation. This is what led to the crashes in 29 and the tech bubble in the 90's. You haven't seen a drastic decline value for memorabilia, yet, because, as PT Barnum put it, "A (fool) is born every minute." Eventually the fools will be weeded out, the market will return to those who collect for the sake of collecting, rather than making money, and the value of memorabilia will drop (see: Beanie Babies). Overall, Chris Pummer might be correct on most collectors of memorabilia, however, like many hobbies, those who participate for their own personal enjoyment are definitely not fools.

Conrad G Absolutely in the case of true one of a kind pieces of memorabilia. Famous Canadian artist Ken Danby has recreated his famous At The Crease painting onto a goalie mask and signed it. This is truely unique as unlike his original painting this will never be duplicated. It was appraised for $18,000 US. It is up for auction until November 24 at 4pm at . All proceeds as a result of the sale go to Shoot For A Cure to help cure and prevent spinal injuries. 11/23/2006
