Becky Great info. Nice to have "before" I purchase my new horse trailer! 10/21/2009
Beth Ann Nice info. Looking to buy my first . A friend has an AL, 4 yrs old, l and it looks terrible from trailing alot . The dents and bumps from the horses, and they are not bad horses to trailer. I can understand the steel rust issue, we're from NE Ohio (snow capital). As with all things, care and maintained equipment last the longest. The damage with minor accidents has me thinking. Need to talk to a few more AL owners about that. Thanks. 9/20/2009
Linda B. Steel horse trailers will only be better when the horse trailer industry DIPS their steel trailers in E-coat (a corrosion resistant primer) like they do in the car industry. Until they do, they will still rust. The rust comes from the areas that can NOT get painted (areas that paint can NOT get to during the painting process). Galvanized steel still has to be dipped in E-coat. Until then, I will stick with my 4Star all aluminum trailer. We own a collision repair facility and have restored many cars over the last 50 years...give me aluminun for a horse trialer! (ps..we lived in Upstate NY for 50 years before moving to TN, we know rust!) 8/26/2008

sabine lundgren what trailer is the safest to purchase, would it be steel frame with alumimum ? 12/31/2007
Kenny Woods Have you ever seen a steel framed aluminum skinned trailer 5 years down the road? The aluminum skin gets eaten by a process called electrolysis, where the steel and aluminum touch. This is quite common in steel framed aluminum skinned trailers and is most apparent along the bottom portion of the exterior walls where road salt expedites the elctrolysis process. As for newer developments in the corrosion resistant properties of steel: galvaneeled, galvanized, and powder coated steel still corrode and rust. They are not rust proof. One should keep in mind that this article was written by someone with a vested interest in the sale of steel framed aluminum skinned EquiSpirit Trailers. It was not written by an unbiased 'authority on horse trailers'. 2/6/2007
