It is only her "face" that is taking her places. And that is also possible with all make-up! Else, like others said, no good education, no talent, leaving boyfriends for status and money, then showing of being religious? Vijay, priya, kavita...all are correct. Hope, she saves Abhishek... |

She is really pretty but she has no talent ,absolutely no value to add in indian culture .Actress like Karisma ,Rani M ,Kajol ,etc are more real talent who do not need just looks to foster. |

some of comments are uncharitable. Ash has achieved fame by leveraging her talent which includes looks. She richly deserves the fame, unlike so many other stars who manipulate the media and public by pretence. |

i TOTALLY agree wid ya man! she's not really a woman of presence, or high calibre- comparatively at least, to sushmita sen. she made a fool of herself on david letterman too- dressed like a hooker for one thing n she dint get any of his jks! how sad. she can speak well n act well- if only her lines are memorized n direction is of quality! i mean, she's an ACTRESS for goodness sakes!! IMPROVISE?? ain't that the point?! she's gotta learn to put tht brain n tht brit accent of hers to better use than that.

Let’s look at Ash. No I didnt mean at her picture——–let’s look at her achievments vis-a-vis the Indian film industry. Some of her most fanatical fans may claim she can act but anyone who is analyzing with their brain knows that her acting is extremely artificial and stilted. Acting ability has not gotten in the way of Bollywood stars producing box-office hits but even here her record is abysmal. And yet she finds herself on the Cannes jury as the representative of the Indian (Hindi) film industry when far more deserving icons (Amitabh Bachchan) stay at home. The reason? Ash looks much better than Amitabh in a back baring dress. Ergo she gets on the jury rubbing shoulders with Martin Scorcese et al. The fact that she makes a fool of herself looking like rogued-up tart is quite besides the point.
But then there she is. The face of Indian cinema. The cross-over queen who shall do for Indian movies what Crouching Tiger did for the Chinese movie industry. Backed by Miramax—she was supposedly even invited to present an Oscar ! She’s on 60 minutes giggling like a 15 year old girl on a date. She’s on David Letterman’s—–rehearsed and stilted in all her plastic glory. Which would all have been fine if she was there as Aishwarya Rai. But no she was representing India—and that’s how the publicity machine both in US and India choose to drum her into public consciousness. Which is why I want to shout out—no no she does not represent me…..oh good lord no.

I saw two of Aishwarya Rai's movies...Chokher Bali and Raincoat....in the last two weeks. here is my verdict: she simply cannot act and ruined what could have been outstanding, way out there, amazing, kick ass, blow your socks off movies. here is the kicker: despite her, Raincoat is an excellent movie and Chokher Bali deserves a viewing. she cannot so get beyond the fact that she is considered as extremely beautiful and has been called "the most beautiful woman in the world." she is perfect in movies like "taal" where all is required from her is to be beautiful, wear beautiful costumes, occasionally let tears roll down her beautiful cheeks, and occasionally spasm and contort her face to indicate emotion...which totally works when you have a regular hindi flick. however, when you deal with a Chokher Bali or a Raincoat and the movie is riding on the shoulders of an extremely small cast with no snazzy costumes, song and dance routines, and foreign locales, well then, all you have is aishwarya rai trying to act, which is quite painful to watch from the audience end of things. CHecK OuT LISA RAY in WATER!!! What a woman!!!

Aishwarya Rai cannot act, which is unfortunate, considering that she's looking better than ever in Dhoom2. The finest lines in the script, the repartees, fall flat as they exit Ms Rai's over-the-top face, and her Sunehri comes across as an obnoxious girl falling prey to the very stereotypes she preaches incessantly against - kissing on screen. She seemed so unrehearsed in that scene with Hrithik.
In Bride & Prejudice, one of her so called Hollywood ventures, English is not her forte, ending up sounding stilted and contrived, something that would work in Dilli, as they would get something to affectionately titter and leer at simultaneously. She is an annoying little thing. A visually sublime bimbette, she might just slot into Hollywood like Penelope Cruz began, or early-days Goldie Hawn.
I think we should send Priyanka, Bipasha or Kareena to Hollywood!

I agree with Sarwamangalam and Kavita. Really when you look at Aishwarya what can you think of in terms of talent and achievement. NOTHING. Just a beautiful woman. No great education, no acting talent being an actress and no achievements. So what if Time Magazine etc. put her in the Top 100 List. Even Bush is, so what!!! |

Aishwarya is a person with no talent and is popular only on the basis of beauty that she was born with. Absolutely no value add to Indian Culture. Actors like Amitabh, Shahrukh, Kajol, Rani etc are real talent who donot need just looks to foster. |

Indians are cynical at times. they dont want to believe that Ash is the genuine stuff. Ash is differeent from other bimbettes of Bollywood. She has quality and substance and that makes people jealous. |

The article does justice to the phenomenon called Ash. I see her as a role model for womenhood. how to be successful and remain dutiful, religious and true to oneself |

What are the prestigious hollywood films in her kitty? How Indians love the word prestigious! The only western film she is in is The last Legion and that's hardly prestigious. The director is a first timer who used to make junk like Zena on tv. AR is beautiful -there is no doubt but there are millions of beautiful girls out there. Let's also admit she has no talent. She cannot act to save her life. Let's not get too excited and exaggerate. |

Aishwarya Rai has been involved in charity work. She has invested some time and more importantly some of her own money in women development causes. Her nature is private and she never tries to defend herslef in public. This has resulted in many adverse and stupid articles about her. I personally beleive Ash is a clean and wholesome person. As an icon for Indian womanhood. she is unbeatable and as a representative of our films she has contributed the most. She is recognisable in many parts of the world by foreigners much better than any other Indian star, Amitabh and Shah Rukh included. |

I agree, in fact hats off to her. I have never exactly appreciated Bollywood films and India itself without her grace, talent and beauty. She is captivating to watch on screen and indeed the most beautiful woman one has ever seen. |
