drummaster33 Ivan, I understand what you mean, and you must have great pride and courage to come out and admit you're gay. Sadly, most people would ridicule you mercilessy for that. Great people in history were gay! (I'm not) Freddy Mercury, lead singer of the legendary band Queen, he was gay and died of AIDS, yet that band became one of the most widely known in the music industry! It is an outrage. My opinion: it's the Civil Rights Movement all over again. Last time, African Americans were shunned. This time, it's gays. I do not mind gays much myself, as long as they don't do anything homosexual in public. Yes, insane and extreme to reject someone from the U.S. military for their race. I strongly disagree! Whoever outed them should be ashamed. 6/5/2007
molly Thats messed up. How can our governement allow this to happen? Since when was it illegal to be gay? How can you discharge someone from the army for their sexual preference!??! It does not make any sense whatsoever. Whatever happened to seperation of church and state?! 4/10/2007

mombot46 Poor kid. An atmosphere of fear is becoming so prevalent in our country and he was yet another victim. Kids can't read Harry Potter because some people think kiddie lit will make them do things when they , as parents, can't make their kids behave. And don't tell anyone if you are a democrat or wiccan because that isn't "mainstream" anymore and might incur some kind of retaliation. So sad. 8/7/2006
Ivan I am gay, and I was also honorably discharged from the US military because of it. My discharge happened in 1988, before "Don't ask, don't tell". It is so sad to see our country continue to treat gay men and women as second class citizens, we truly don't have the right to be real Americans if we are not allowed to serve and protect our country. 8/7/2006
Jason Aydelott What kind of message is our US Military sending when it discharges gay men yet turns a blind eye to members of white supremacist groups in it's ranks?

Due to the pressure to increase recruitment, the US military is relaxing is standards that are designed to keep racist extremists out of the armed forces. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, there are currently thousands of neo-Nazis and other white supremacists on active duty. One Defense Department Investigator has reported that there is Aryan Nations graffiti in Bagdad.

Read through the articles on the Southern Poverty Law Center Website, and you will see that, despite being notified that specific soldiers have ties to neo-Nazi Groups, the military does nothing.

So, it seems that the military feels that gay soldiers pose more of a threat then memebers of extreme anti-government groups. I think most of our soliders would prefer not to be fighting alongside men who hate them because they are black or hispanic.

Str8 Girl Calif Sounds like the investigation was correct, but the Asking in front of the crowd deserves punishment. Copas can still serve our country as a linguist for FBI, CIA, or NSA if he chooses. I appreciate his loyalty to our country and his service. 7/30/2006
