Is bamboo really an environmentally friendly alternative to wood for making paper?

If so, why are we still cutting down trees to keep our copiers and printers humming?

toebonian I find it reprehensible to consider - as the point is made in this article - hauling bamboo halfway around the world to make paper. Why don't the countries that have bamboo use it? I would suspect that the paper is perhaps inferior!
Instead of reducing the use of paper, the computer has caused the use of paper to increase threefold. Check it out!
A little honesty would be refreshing on this subject of CO2. If the CO2 emissions were to be one half of what they are today, then the existing trees and plants would have no reason to exist in the numbers that they are today. So a little balance would be nice.
A little honesty about the environment would be good too.
