Croatia is a country in south-central Europe, bordered on the north by Slovenia and Hungary, on the west by the Adriatic Sea, on the south and east by Bosnia and Herzegovina, and on the east by Serbia. The country is shaped like an inverted V, with one arm (Dalmatia) extending from Istria south along the coast of the Adriatic, and the other (Croatia proper and Slavonia) extending inland eastward as far as the Serbian border. Its capital is Zagreb. A Croat population also exists in neighboring Bosnia-Herzegovina, especially in the area around Mostar, near the Croatian border.
