United States Virgin Islands Travel
United States Virgin Islands travel and tourism information & guide on vacation spots and destinations in US Virgin Islands. The Virgin Islands is a group of seven main islands and over ninety islets. They lie east of Puerto Rico, and among the main islands: Saint Thomas, Saint Croix, Saint John's belong to the United States, while Anegada, Jost Van Dyke, Tortola, Virgin Gorda belong to the British. Fresh water is scarce, and several seawater distilleries have been built. Christopher Columbus landed at Saint Croix in 1493. The British gained control of their islands in 1666. Many of the inhabitants are descendants of slaves who worked on colonial plantations. Others came from the United States, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and the Lesser Antilles.
